Irreverent craft brewery BrewDog has a festive gift for US Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

BrewDog founder, James Watt, has gifted Trump two Equity for Punks shares this Christmas in the hope it will inspire the real estate magnate to “get back into business” and “stop trying to become the leader of the free world.”

Equity for Punks is BrewDog’s pioneering crowdfunding scheme, which asks beer fans to back the brewery, allowing it to scale up without selling out. So far the scheme has seen 35,000 beer-loving punks invest, committing to the cause of taking on bland, industrial beer.

Watt revealed the gift in an open letter published on the BrewDog blog today in which he explains his motives: “You see Donald, although I admire people in the world of business who are uncompromising in their ambition, all this Presidential stuff is nonsensical. To quote a great countryman of yours – you cannot be serious?

Building a massive wall to keep everyone out? Opposing same sex marriage? Insulting the disabled? Calling immigrants criminals and rapists?!

Your ideas are as misplaced as your hair, sir.”

The move comes as BrewDog has made it easier than ever for fans to gift Equity for Punks to their hop-obsessed friends. People as generous as James can give the gift of Equity for Punks themselves at brewdog.com/equityforpunks.

The open letter can be read in full over at the BrewDog blog.

This is not the first time BrewDog has taken a tongue-in-cheek swipe at a famous political figure. In 2014 BrewDog produced Hello, My Name is Vladamir, a ‘protest-beer’ that campaigned against homophobic legislation in Russia. --- ENDS ---

What is BrewDog? Bored of the industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominated the UK market, school friends James Watt and Martin Dickie established BrewDog in 2007. They decided the best way to fix this undesirable predicament was to brew their own beers. Both only 24 at the time, BrewDog’s cofounders leased a building, got some scary bank loans, spent all their money on stainless steel and started making hardcore beers.

“We are dedicated to making cool, contemporary and progressive beers showcasing some of the world’s classic beer styles. All with an innovative twist and customary BrewDog bite.” - James Watt and Martin Dickie
