GOLF

THE GAME: Golf is an individual outdoor sport played on a course marked with tees, fairways, bunkers, rough, obstacles, greens and holes that are marked with flags. A round of golf consists of from one to four people playing 9 or 18 holes. The object is to hit the ball with a club and count the number of strokes (swings) it takes to get the ball from the tee into the hole (cup).

SCORING: Par is the average score for a hole. A hole in one is an ace. One under par is a birdie. Two under par is an eagle. One over par is a bogey. Two over par is a double bogey (buzzard).

PLAYING: At the tee the ball is placed on a peg (tee) and hit with a club. Each club has a dissimilar slant (loft) enabling the ball to go different distances. There are 14 individual clubs in a regulation set. A driver is used to hit the ball off the tee. A putter is used to hit the ball on the green into the hole or cup.
