POSITION: Transportation Mechanic I
SALARY: State Salary Schedule (Salary Grade 59)
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school. Working knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance. Skills to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement, fuel dispensing, washing vehicles, etc. Skill in operating various machines in repairing vehicles. Ability to locate problems and to physically perform minor repairs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, perform necessary maintenance to school transportation vehicles, including but not limited to:
Fills fuel tanks on school buses and school-owned vehicles Installs air and oil filters, replaces wiper blades and fan belts, and rotates, replaces and repairs tires. Lubricates moving parts of vehicle chassis and checks, adds and replaces brake and steering fluids. Cleans carburetors, ignition systems, and electrical components and tests and replaces batteries as needed. Drains and cleans radiators. Paints buses and vehicles with spray equipment Tests headlight alignment and makes necessary adjustments Checks and repairs doors and lifts, repairs seat belts and broken windows. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
