Job Title: Facilities Support Assistant

Grade: 2

Category: Support

Job Purpose: To provide a 5/7 working pattern for efficient and effective caretaking, portering, external cleaning, housekeeping and minor maintenance repair services to the City, and Coach Lane.

Responsible to: Facilities Support Supervisor.

1. Key Responsibilities:  Provision of Facilities Support Services primarily but not limited to the following:-  Locking and unlocking of rooms within buildings and facilities as and when required.  Observation and reporting of any suspicious or irregular persons or circumstances.  Undertaking minor maintenance repairs in line with provided training, capability and competence.  Reporting of maintenance requirements outside of the post holders capability and competence.  Furniture removal and furniture rearrangement to classrooms, offices and other University facilities as required.  Setting up meeting, conference, event facilities and exam set-ups at both City and Coach Lane campus.  Delivery, transportation and safe storage of goods and equipment belonging to the University.  Responding to fire and evacuation alarms and proactively assisting in the speedy evacuation of buildings and facilities as a member of the University’s Fire Response Team.  Janitorial and waste management duties.  Maintain clear and safe access/egress to buildings.  Actively participate in supporting the Snow and Ice policy as required.  Completion of timely classroom checks, accurately completing proforma’s and associated paperwork.  Completion of statutory compliance checks within agreed timeframes in accordance with training and periodic requirements.

 Participation in the delivery of designated planned maintenance inspections and testing including but not exclusively limited to fire detection and fire-fighting installations and equipment if required.  Participation in preparations for School Open Days, University Open Days, Academic Congregations, Internal and External Conferences and Events within and outside normal working hours.  Assisting disabled students, disabled residents or visitors. ______ Portable appliance testing in line with provided training, capability and competence.  Assisting in the registration and induction of new students and conference arrivals if required.  Provision of First Aid first responder role in conjunction with the security team.  Participate and attend appropriate Tool Box Talks and H&S briefings to maintain competencies.  Deputise and shadow the Facilities Assistant Supervisor if and when required.  To carry out any other duties deemed appropriate by line manager to ensure successful service delivery.

2. Key Deliverables and KPI’s:  The provision of an efficient, effective and proactive service to enhance the student and staff experience.  To participate in a 5/7 working pattern to support and deliver an efficient facilities service.

3. Key Qualifications:  Good standard of general education and literacy.  Maths, English and IT Literacy.  Valid clean driving licence.  First Aid qualification.

4. Key Skills and Experience:-  Experienced in the delivery of Caretaking, Building Facilities and Janitorial Services.  Ability to drive a Luton/Transit or similar light goods vehicle (Cat B & B1).  Ability to provide First Aid treatment and support.  Willingness and commitment to participate and complete appropriate training required to fulfil the role requirements.

5. Relationships:-  Ability to work independently or part of a team as and when required.  To act professionally and to respect colleagues and partners at all times.  The ability to put the customer at the heart of service delivery.

6. Location:-  The post holder will work flexibly across the University’s City or Coach Lane Campus depending on work requirements.

7. Attendance Requirements  37 hours per week working on a 5/7 working pattern within a 07.00 to 18.00 hour’s core service provision framework. This post is not eligible for job share.  Willingness to work outside core hours including week-ends.  Flexibility to attend work within alternative hours of work, with notice, to support the Snow and Ice policy.
