Mechanical Development Engineer

Reporting To: Managing Director Effective: October 2014

Objective To design and develop new products, from concept to commercial product, to develop existing products with the aim of maintaining/improving market share, reducing costs, and widening their scope of applications.

A. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Prepare concepts of new, or improvements to existing, products in sufficient detail on which Management can decide to proceed. 2. Prepare a plan and budget for the proposed product development. 3. Prepare (or manage the preparation thereof) prototypes and evaluate as required, including supporting documentation. 4. Prepare technical documentation for the product, including drawings, diagrams and descriptions where required. 5. Obtain relevant certification to show compliance with applicable standards. 6. Prepare the production file for the new product, and ensure all provision is met that enables the product to be manufactured in accordance with regulations and standards. This includes test plans and designing test equipment. 7. Provide training to customers, project engineering, and production as and when required. 8. Undertake other duties or tasks as reasonably requested by Management, consistent with your skills and abilities.

B. Interfaces 1. Management via the Managing and Operations Directors. 2. Project Engineering, Production and other technical staff via the Engineering Manager. 3. Market/Customers via senior sales staff and Managing Director, and direct customer contact. 4. Accounts for costing purposes. 5. Suppliers and sub-contractors.

C. Skills and conditions 1. 3-5 years experience 2. SolidWorks or experience with a similar design package. 3. Hands on experience in a work role is essential. 4. Problem solving skills
