Announcements for Middle School Students Will Be Read Every Morning During 1St Period

NIMS STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS MONDAY, AUGUST 23, 2010 DAY A (1)

Students: Welcome back! This is going to be a different but exciting year. Many of you will have questions about our big transition from Thompson to Buffalo Center. Hopefully, most of your questions will be answered at our assembly and by your classroom teachers. Make it a great school year!

Announcements for Middle School students will be read every morning during 1st period.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited at the beginning of 1st period of every Monday (or first school day of the week).

There will be an assembly for all Middle School students in the Auditorium from 10:20-10:55 am. Teachers will dismiss you from your 3rd period class at about 10:18 am.

All 6th graders meet Mrs. Steffensen in the gym lobby at the beginning of 7th hour today

Middle School students will get a walk through or tour of the location of all MS classrooms during 2nd period with their teachers. The walk through should only take about 10 minutes.

We will using bells this year to indicate the start and end of your classes. It will take some time to get used to the bells and the new schedule, so teachers will be understanding this week. Students should know where they are going next week and will be expected to be on time.

Middle School students are to go to the Multi-purpose room before school until the first bell rings.

All students should have a locker to keep their books, other school materials, and coat (if necessary). If you have a problem with your locker, please visit with Mrs. Mathahs in the MS office.

Students can put their PE clothes and/or duffle bags in the MS locker rooms (formerly the visitor’s locker rooms) before school. These locker rooms will be locked during the school day. Please talk with Mr. Hinders or Mrs. Steffensen if you have any questions.

6th graders – Vocal Music will be 4th period on ‘A’ days (starting today) and Band will be on ‘B’ days (tomorrow). Those who are not in Band will report to Mrs. Matson’s room for study hall. Mrs. Mayland will be supervising the study hall.

7th & 8th graders – Band will be 3rd period on ‘A’ days (starting today) and Vocal Music will be on ‘B’ days (tomorrow). Those who are not in Chorus or Band will report to the following locations: 7th graders to the Middle School Media Center with Mrs. Mayland and 8th graders to the Ms. Smith’s classroom.

Any 8th grader opting out of Vocal Music must return the waiver form with a parent’s signature to the MS office.

All Middle School students will have Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) for 10 minutes before lunch. Students are expected to bring a book or reading material with them to D.E.A.R.

All Middle School students will have Homeroom (formerly Flex) at the end of the school day for 26 minutes. Homeroom is time to work on assignments/homework and get help from teachers. It is academic time, not social time.

Students need to have their student planners/passports with them at all times, especially if they want/need to leave the classroom. It will cost $5.00 to replace a lost or abused planner/passport.

All Middle School students will have lunch at the same time – 11:35-12:01. 8th graders will eat lunch first this week followed by 7th graders and then 6th graders. Students must stay in the Commons or the North Gym lobby. You be dismissed from lunch by 12:01 bell and by the lunch supervisors.

Cell phones are not allowed in the classrooms. If a student has a cell phone in his/her possession, the teacher may take the phone and bring to the MS office.

Study Tables will be every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school from 3:40-4:40 pm and will be held in the HS Media Center. Students may be assigned to Study Table by a teacher, parents, and/or by Mr. Embrock. Students who receive 4 late homework slips in a quarter will be required to attend Study Table. Students may voluntarily attend Study Table to get homework done and/or get extra help or tutoring from teachers.

School Picture Day is Monday, August 30.

All Thompson students in grades 6-7 will ride Rosella Wubben’s bus to and from Thompson each day. She will arrive at the Thompson School building around 7:50 a.m. each morning. All students in grade 8-12 from Thompson will ride Don Mathahs’ bus to and from Thompson. Don will arrive at the Thompson building at 7:15 a.m. Due to limited space there will not be room on Rosella’s bus for 8-12th graders. During MS volleyball practice, all volleyball players WILL ride on Rosella’s bus after school only.

Middle school volleyball will start today after school. Practice will be held in Thompson. Ride Bus # 7 after school to Thompson. We will practice until 5:30 p.m. and then the sport shuttle will bring you back to Buffalo Center. Be sure you have shorts, shirt and gym shoes. Bring your physical forms with you to practice. If you need to ride the sport shuttle bus, please sign up in the HS/MS office by noon. Coach Steffensen & Coach Smith

Middle school football players – We will be riding a bus to Thompson after school today to get our football equipment. The bus will leave right after school is out at 3:30. Bring your football cleats, workout clothes, and physical forms with you. The sport shuttle will leave Thompson at 5:30 and return to B.C. Remember to sign up for the sport shuttle in the HS/MS office by noon. Coach Krull & Coach Eichenberger
