Photography I/II & Advanced Photography

Photography I/II & Advanced Photography 2015-2016 Mrs. Jacqueney Course Description: The word photography is derived from the Greek words: phos, meaning light, and graphis, meaning drawing. Photography is the art of drawing with light. In this course students will learn about photography using traditional and contemporary techniques and tools. Students will learn the various creative processes, aesthetics, techniques, history, and how it relates to workplace and society as a communication medium. In Photography I, students begin their journey by exploring traditional black and white photography. In Photography II, students continue building on Photography based knowledge as well as create a stronger sense of personal photo techniques and style.

Students develop critical thinking skills as they learn to communicate, represent, and convey visual messages. Students will expand their analytical skills by participating in critiques, discussions, project reflections, and by maintaining a writing photo journal. Students will demonstrate technical and creative skills through operating a 35mm camera, developing film, to make prints, and to mount photos on frames.

Students will participate in lecture, supplemental reading materials, and visual demonstrations in every unit throughout the course. Students will be provided with expectations, detailed written and verbal instructions, and grading rubrics. Equipment Contract Photography I/II & Advanced Photography 2015-2016 Mrs. Jacqueney Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

The camera loan policies will insure students’ productivity during the school year, and allow all students to have equal access to all equipment on a timely fashion. Students are responsible for the equipment at all times while it is in his/her possession (during in class assignments or overnight assignments). Students and Parents please review the checklist below; please sign and date this document indicating that you have read and understand the camera policy during this course.

 All Cameras consist of a camera body, plus a separate lens.  Students will take extreme care of the camera on loan: make sure the camera does not fall, gets scratched, or damaged while in student’s possession.  If the camera is damaged, student/parents/guardians will cover the costs of parts, repair/labor.  Student/Parents/Guardians will replace the camera if it breaks, or it is lost during the possession period. The cost of the camera is the retail cost of the lost/broken camera body, PLUS the cost of the camera lens (two separate costs).  The particular Pentax cameras that are used in the Photography class are no longer in production. Therefore the teacher will find a compatible camera and provide the student/parent with the best possible cost for replacement.  If a camera is damaged during the loan period, the student must notify Teacher immediately.  Student will return camera on the check-in date. Other students will share the same camera and depend on a timely return. Late check-ins will result in loss of camera check-out privileges. If student will be absent, the parent/guardian must check-in the camera for the student.  Late return of camera will set back time needed for peer’s assignments. In such a case, students will lose camera sign-out privileges and/or length of time while camera is signed-out.
