Iowans Fit Wellmark Foundation 5 Vending surveys were completed on Capitol grounds for the reliability for Life location study of the NEMS-V tool. A meeting was held with Dept. for the Blind and s vendors from Lucas and Wallace buildings. A pilot project will be conducted at these two buildings offering 20-30% healthy choices and using signage for promotion. Samples of healthy vending options will be offered on a snack cart circulating in both buildings; this strategy will also market increase of healthy options in vending. Community Iowans Fit for Life 4 Community Health Partners developed signs to be used at the point of Health conveni purchase to encourage healthy choices. Group will explore the idea of having vending carts from local businesses in county building to increase access to healthy foods. Van Buren Iowans Fit for Life 10 local Each of the restaurants had improvements that could be made to the kid’s County restaur menus. The local newspapers have published the first of a series of four newspaper articles to educate parents on how to identify the healthier choices on the menus. Meeting held with s Jefferson County Healthy and Wellness Commission on June 22nd to review assessments and determine where to go from here. It was also discovered the Mills County YMCA already has successful policies in place. Creston Iowans Fit Vending 5 locations- 4 government, 1 nonprofit Southwestern Community for Life College has plans to discuss snack options and permission to use colored dots with vendors. The Greater Regional Medical Center is interested in discussing the findings in more detail. Concern with the YMCA’s vending machine location was noted. Hancock Iowans Fit Grocery Stores; 3 grocery stores; 4 convenience stores Plans to share results with for Life Convenience managers and local board Stores of health. Siouxland Iowans Fit Vending 4 locations Over 130 NEMS-V for Life assessments at 15 businesses have been completed in last 18 months. Teaming with local vending companies to identify additional items which meet NEMS-V criteria. Also working with vendors to increase healthy option offerings. Many company success stories. Dallas Iowans Fit Vending 3 locations All county beverage for Life machines now offer 30% or more of healthier choices, but no healthy options are available in snack machines. The project has given the county a positive public image. Valley West Mall recently installed a healthy vending machine. Cerro Gordo Iowans Fit Vending 3 locations Numerous vending for Life machines earned award recognition.

Calhoun Iowans Fit Vending The NEMS-V committee reviewed the NEMS-V County for Life assignments and the assessments to date as well as identified the vending sites for intended follow up and set out plans to report to Calhoun County Board of Health by the next scheduled meeting July 19, 2012.
Delaware Iowans Fit Vending All vending machines were assessed and 2 were County for Life awarded Silver status and 2 were awarded Bronze Public status for healthy options available. Recommendations Healthy proposed include adding healthy choices in order to have the machines attain Gold status, moving healthy choices to eye level, adding markers to identify the healthier options and lowering the cost of bottled water. These will be presented to the medical center leadership team.
Buchanan Iowans Fit Vending Increase healthy options so that 30% of the choices County for Life available are healthy. Employees will be surveyed to gain information about which machines are used more often and what healthy choices they would like to see offered. A “stop light” system will be implemented in order to show that an item with a green sticker is the healthiest option.
