The courses are designed to offer two years of training, thus sophomores are given the first choice. You should plan your course work wisely, keeping in mind that you are committing yourself to two years of career/technical training. Your program choice is dependent upon the number of slots available, scheduling procedures, total score, and an overall sincerity, need, interest, ability, and occupational objective. Dropping a program after one year is strongly discouraged and changing from one program to another is not permitted.

READ AND SIGN THE BACK OF THIS APPLICATION. ------Dear Student and Parent/Guardian:

Please read the following information very carefully.  Absences: The Career/Technical programs are designed to incorporate much “hands on” and “in shop” training. Several times each week the students will be completing assignments and activities that require attendance. Most of these assignments cannot be duplicated or re-created outside of the shop area. Because of this, absences must be kept to a minimum.

Students with excessive absences will not be accepted into a Career/ Technical program nor permitted to maintain enrollment in a program. The maximum number of days a student can be absent from class is 16 per school year in a year-long program. More than 16 absences, regardless of the situation, may result in the student being withdrawn from the program.

 Demerits: All of the Career/Technical programs have very strict safety requirements that must be followed to ensure the safety of all. Some of the programs use heavy machinery and tools that are dangerous if used improperly. Students that have discipline referrals, especially for disruption or not following rules, may not be accepted. This rule must be followed for the protection of the students and faculty.

 Grades: The Career/Technical programs are electives. Students must be passing their required courses to be accepted. Students must be able to read and pass all safety tests with 100 percent correctness before being allowed in the shop area.

 MS-CPAS2: Each student is required to take the Mississippi Career Planning and Assessment System exam. If a student scores below 60%, on the Year 1 CPAS program exam, which is failing, they may not be permitted to proceed to the 2nd Year Program.

Each Career/Technical program awards two (2) credits per year. However, unlike other courses, the Career/Technical credits are awarded at the end of the school year in May. A student must stay in the program the entire school year in order to earn credit. Withdrawal from the program at any time during the school year after the normal add/drop date may result in a grade of 50. Your signature indicates that you have read and understand the above policies.
