Part-Time Public Training Program Coordinator

Position Summary

The Public Training Program Coordinator participates in and provides support for all aspects of Longmont Humane Society’s Training and Behavior program. S/he handles public training schedules, public training group classes, private clients, adoption follow up program clients, and assists with administrative duties as assigned. The position reports to the Director of Training and Behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Promotes and grows the Public Training Program (PTP), including increasing attendance in group classes, increasing private training clients, and increasing annual revenue.  Provides initial behavior counseling and phone support to clients through the Adoption Follow Up (AFU) Program and assures that phone calls and emails from clients are returned in a timely manner.  Coordinates with members of the Training and Behavior team for extended AFU phone counseling as needed.  Creates and implements new program ideas and classes.  Maintains, organizes, and distributes training department documents such as handbooks, SOPs, etc.  Maintains the PTP portion of the website to assure current and accurate information is available to the public.  Maintains records of client participation in PTP classes, schedules public dog training classes, and confirms all registration fees have been paid.  Coordinates shared space usage and scheduling and ensures the Dog Training Center’s cleanliness.  Designs and prepares flyers, notices, signs, training class rosters, certificates, surveys, etc., as requested.  Coordinates PTP instructor schedules and classes.  Represents LHS in a positive and professional manner at all times.  Responsible for general filing, office, and administrative duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience:  A minimum of 1 year of dog behavior experience with a willingness to learn new training methods.  Prior experience with humane organization/animal welfare administration and operations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Page 1 of 2  Acceptance of and comfort with a wide variety of training methods and training tools, including balanced training utilizing all four quadrants of learning theory.  Excellent verbal and written communication and public speaking skills.  Attention to detail and ability to work independently and make good decisions.  Ability to use a computer and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word); ability to learn new software as necessary.  Ability to meet deadlines; ability to set and accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.  Ability to work a flexible schedule with regular weekend and evening activities.  Knowledge of the guidelines and practices in an animal welfare/shelter environment.  Knowledge of local animal control laws and state humane laws and their application to the general public.  Valid drivers license with a good driving record; must be able to qualify for commercial auto insurance coverage, which applies when driving a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use

Working Conditions:  Office and animal shelter environment.  Potential exposure to high noise levels and zoonotic diseases.  Exposure to all weather conditions when working at outdoor events.  Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.  Frequent use of computer and telephone.
