AP Economics Summer Assignments

Please take some time this summer to think about time management for your senior year.

 You will have a lot of challenging classes that will require much of your time. Additionally I know many of you will have jobs, extracurricular sports and clubs, family responsibilities, and college visits/applications. When, specifically, are you going to make time for studying?

 You should probably budget around 7 hours per week for AP Econ. Obviously this will vary from person to person. Ideally you should spread that out over several days. Your homework will consist mainly of reading assignments and practice problems, but you should also review class notes on a daily basis.

Assignments for the summer All summer assignments are to be done INDEPENDENTLY. There should be no collaboration or sharing of ideas. Violations will receive a grade of zero and possible honor code violation. Both are due the first day of class for a grade.

I)  Carefully read Chapter 1 and the Chapter 1 appendix (Graphs and Their Meaning): . https://www.dropbox.com/s/xyvsb54puew6mng/McConnell%2018th%20ed %20textbook%20in%20pdf.pdf?dl=0 . Note: You can X out of the initial pop-up and wait a few seconds for the book to load.  Fully answer questions 1-16 on pages 20-21 (this is pages 53 and 54 on pdf).  Fully answer questions 1-8 on pages 27-28 (this is pages 60 and 61 on pdf).

II)  Purchase your own Micro and Macro Workbooks (see below).  Read the “Key Ideas” on pages 3 and 4 of the Micro Workbook.  Complete all parts of Activity 1-1 “Do You Think Like an Economist?”  Complete all parts of Activity 1-2 “Scarcity, Opportunity Cost and Production Possibilities Curves”.

Workbook These two workbooks, one for Micro and one from Macro, will serve as your primary means of practice. They are required and will be used on an almost daily basis to practice problems and work through new concepts. Be sure to get the 4th edition. You must obtain the Micro workbook by the first day of class. Order this early in the summer as it takes a while to ship and there are often product shortages towards the end of summer. The Macro workbook will be used spring semester.
