***** October Meeting The October Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 13, at 5:30 PM at Geotechnology’s Office (11816 Lackland Road, Suite 150, St. Louis, Missouri 63146). Our meeting will honor (The Life and Times of) James H. Williams, R.G., PhD, former State Geologist, for over fifty years of dedication and service to the field of geology! Please RSVP ASAP at http://aegstl.org/monthly-section-meetings/ If you would like the opportunity to speak at this meeting please contact Stephanie ([email protected]) ASAP! This meeting does not qualify for PDHs.

***** Thank You to our Sponsors! We would like to thank Eco-Rental Solutions, Teklab, Inc., and Geotechnology, Inc. for Sponsoring our AEG Student Workshop! We had over 30 students in attendance and received positive feedback.

***** Student Education Award Offered The St. Louis Chapter is now offering a Student Education Award (Award amount $1000 to be paid to the School of Attendance). All you have to do is attend our monthly meetings. Each meeting you attend gives you one chance of winning! The more meetings you attend, the higher your chances become of being chosen the winner of the Award. Students must be in good standing at their school and majoring in geology or a related field of study. The Student Education Award will be awarded at the April Meeting. You do not have to be present to win.

***** Report from the AEG Annual Meeting in Hawaii Congratulations to Duane Kreuger upon receiving the Floyd T. Johnston Service Award from AEG and to Dr. J. David Rogers upon receiving the Karl and Ruth Terzaghi Mentor Award. Both of these are of the highest honors, selected by peers from the national membership of AEG. To have both of these well-deserved awards go to members from the St. Louis Chapter of AEG is especially notable. Thank you to both Mr. Kreuger and Dr. Rogers for your dedication to the profession!

***** Third North American Symposium on Landslides The Third North American Symposium on Landslides will be held in Roanoke, Virginia, on June 4-8, 2017 (about a year from now). The first was held in Colorado in 2007, and the second was held in Banff, Alberta, in 2012. For more information, please visit http://www.aegweb.org/landslideroanoke2017/

***** AEG St. Louis Chapter Sponsors Needed The AEG St. Louis Chapter is looking for sponsors for our September, October, November, and December 2016 Meetings. Sponsorships are $300 per meeting. Please contact Jon Truesdale for more information ([email protected])

Benefits of being a Meeting Sponsor include: a 10-20 word summary in the newsletter, one or two PowerPoint slides to run on the slide-show loop that is projected in the dining room during the networking and dinner time, and if a representative of the sponsoring company attends the meeting, he or she will have two to three minutes to talk about their organization. Brochures, giveaways, table-top displays, and business cards are certainly welcome as well.

***** AEG St. Louis Chapter Committee Volunteers Needed The AEG St. Louis Chapter has several committees that help keep the meetings interesting, the professional network growing, and provide unique value to AEG members. Your help is needed to see that the work of the AEG St. Louis Chapter is completed without undue dependence on a familiar core of volunteers. Many hands make light work.

The following is a list of AEG St. Louis Chapter committees. Can you provide a few hours a year to help on any of these? Social Media Committee – Develop and maintain social media presence Field Trip Committee – Develop and arrange 1-2 field trips each year Meeting Sponsors Committee – Identify and enlist sponsors for monthly meetings Fellowship Committee – Plan one or two fellowship events each year Employment Committee – Facilitate contact between job-seekers and job opportunities Meeting Programs Committee – Identify, invite, host, and thank speakers

To volunteer, please contact Phyllis Steckel ([email protected] or 636-239-4013), and she will put you in contact with those already serving on these committees.
