Prevention Conference Call January 7, 2010

In attendance: Alissa Bradley, Kay Glass, Julie Stevens, Cheron Williams, Kathy Hayward, Kathy Koontz, John Winslow, Jessica Hestand, Amy Peloquin, Mary Jo Mather, Karen Foster, Gail Dixon, Rhonda Messamore, Jeff Wilbee, Randy Teed, Chuck Conner, Deanne Bergen, Roland Piper, Hedy Emery. (NOTE: There were upwards of 25 people on the call – all participant names may not be included above.)

Marketing Update, Hestand: First newsletter is getting ready to be distributed. They are hoping for four quarterly newsletters. The target date is February 15th. Sections: Ethics, Online Courses, Prevention Professionals, HIV Prevention Endorsement, PA Scholarship, OU Degree Update, Study Guide Questions, New Prevention Supervisor Credential. Also though about including NPN or SAMHSA update. Prevention Fellows will also be included. The Hope Taft press release can be adapted to this newsletter. Upcoming national conferences could also be included.

Awards: Prevention Professional and Leader Award will be given at the fall meeting. Nomination period would be in July, determination by August 16th. The group spoke about logistics and planning to start this process.

Candidate Guide, Stevens: This was sent out to all Member Boards. The Candidate Guide was revised with new questions.

ONDCP Listserve, Stevens: This was sent out from the Office. Perry recommended that we subscribe to the ONDCP Listserve for Prevention Specialists. There was a question posted if there are any states that tie credentials to their funding. Dennis Embry responded that credentialing is not valuable. Discussion about responding to this post was discussed. It was determined that it might be too late to respond as it was posted some time ago. There was discussion of using the White Paper to form another paper to promote certification.

CADCA Exhibit, Stevens: We are applying for money to have an exhibit at CADCA. Stevens and Perry will attend.

Item Writing, Bradley: Reported that this will be schedule for early this year.

Supervisory Credential, Bradley: Gave an update on the progress and where the Office is with scheduling the work to be done on this new credential.

Committee Assignments were discussed. They will be discussed on the next EC Call.

Stevens stated that the next prevention call will probably be scheduled for about 8 weeks from now. Information on the next call will be distributed to everyone via email.
