Research Draft 2

This morning I am stuck at a noodle shop a block from our apartment in this big chair. (Ung 2) this is some thing that Loung Ung age 5 would have said when it was quite and kind of peaceful in her home country of Cambodia. Loung has been through a lot in her life time including some important events for Cambodia.

Loung was a smart person. (Ung 237)Loung Ung grew up in Cambodia with her family and friends tell she was around age six. In April 1975 they had to leave again and begin on a journey that lead in to a seven day walk.

(Ung 28)In may of 1977 Ma Gathered Kim, Chou, Geak and Loung together and tells them that they have to split and go far far away. (Ung 121) But I’m sure you would like to hear more about the Daughter Cambodia

Remembers.

Loung was born in 1970 and to this day Loung is still alive. When Loung was younger and in Cambodia she had a decent sized family. Loung had her Pa [Ung, Sem Im], her Ma[Ung, Ay Choung], her Uncle

Hang[ma’s oldest brother], her Uncle Leang[ma’s second brother], her Aunt Keang[ Uncle Leang’s wife],

Meng/brother, Kouy/brother, Keac/sister, Kim/brother, Chou/sister, Loung (herself) and Geak/sister. Loung now lives in the United States and is not married. Loung has had a lot of important events in her life and they would include three main ones Cambodian war, Going to America, and Returning to Cambodia

Loung Ung grew up in Cambodia with her family and friends tell she was around age six. The take over of Cambodia was on April 17th 1975 and continued. (Ung 23) They had some what seen this coming because by then there had been some issues in Cambodia with the government. She had been through a lot before this with her dad working for the government of Cambodia so this put a lot of stress and a big scare on her and her family. Loung always had this feeling in her heart that something would happen with her family because of her dad’s work. Then came the time when they started the seven day walk. In April 1975 they had to leave again and begin on a journey that lead in to a seven day walk. (Ung 28)

This was a journey that no one in the Ung family would of ever dreamed of. Loung kept wondering when they would be able to go home but no one had a clue all they knew was fir now they had to walk that was all.(Ung

29) Every one Kept trying to tell her everything would be alright but in their heads they did not know what was going to happen. They had to keep up the walking from place to place for quite awhile. Then came the time they had to leave their home, not their house but their home, Cambodia.

In may of 1977 Ma Gathered Kim, Chou, Geak and Loung together and tells them that they have to split and go far far away.(Ung 121) All of them wanted to stay and little seven year old Loung was scared to death when she found out this information. So they all say there good buys and they started on there own way, heading for the AMERICA they had heard of. (Ung 123-125) on there way the kids got caught…they ended up going to a children’s work camp. Eventually they made it to AMERICA and Loung went to School like all other kids while her siblings tried to find a place to work and tried to keep the family together in America. They were in a little better place now, America.

So Loung Ung grew up in Cambodia with her family and friends tell she was around age six, in April

1975 they had to leave again and begin on a journey that lead in to a seven day walk (Ung 28), and in April

1975 they had to leave again and begin on a journey that lead in to a seven day walk (Ung 28) All leads up to why Loung has been through a lot in her life time including some important events for Cambodia. Loung was a smart person. (Ung 237) “I am almost home.” (Ung 235) Is what Loung said on her plane ride back to
