Goals for Peer Coaching

Peer Coaching Framework A Reciprocal Professional Development Model

Peer coaching provides a cycle of feedback and discussion around high-yielding instructional practices. It is shown to be one of the most effective ways to increase the implementation of instructional practices.

Goals for peer coaching:  Implement research-based practices (HYPE)  Support one another in the change process—including collaboration around instructional objectives, materials, and lessons  Provide feedback based on identified goals  Record observations about implementation of HYPE strategies

Steps for peer coaching: 1. Identify one HYPE strategy to implement in a lesson 2. Identify a “peer coach” 3. Pre-Observation Reflection: teacher write reflection on “What will this look like in my classroom?” 4. Pre-Observation Meeting a. Identify the HYPE strategy focus b. Share reflections on “What will this look like in my classroom?” c. Share concerns you have about the strategy, your class, etc. d. Set an appointment for an observation of modeled lesson 5. Observation of modeled lesson (approximately 30-minutes) 6. Post-Observation Discussion: Share observations using guiding questions, set a goal, create action steps 7. Post-Observation Teacher Reflection: 1-page Peer Coaching Form
