Portland Police Department Position Title: Police Officer - both lateral and entry level Position Type: Police Job Description Police officers in the City of Portland, Maine's largest municipality, work to enforce the laws of the State of Maine and the ordinances of the City of Portland. The Portland Police Department employs 167 sworn officers and 6o civilian employees. The community it serves is approximately 64,000 residents. PORTLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT PBA BASE PAY PLAN – EFFECTIVE 7/3/2011 POLICE OFFICER 1 0-1 Year $ 35,576 2 1-3 Years $39,561 3 3-5 Years $43,784 Lateral Police Officers are paid 4 5-8 Years $45,510 commensurate to their years of service. 5 8-12 Years $47,091 6 12-18 Years $48,734 7 18+ Years $50,440 **Salary reflects BASE pay only; does NOT include any overtime, specialty pay, court time, education or night shift differential.

Job Requirements  Age : see narrative below  Education : see narrative below  Experience : N/A  Additional Requirement : Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen; High school diploma or equivalent and either 2 years of post-high school employment or 3 years of post-high school education at a school, college or university or any combination of post-high school employment and education totaling 3 years. Applicants will be required to pass a written exam, oral interview, personal background check, polygraph exam, general physical exam and physical fitness test, and a job suitability assessment; The written exam shall be waived for any applicants who are full-time sworn officers at the time of application and are certifiable by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Evidence satisfactory to the Police Chief of such status must be provided by the applicant at the time of application and is subject to approval by the Chief. Applicants must submit a cover letter and resume and a copy of their high school diploma or Equivalency.

Salary Information Entry Level Salary: $671.60 weekly
