Lilith Research and Development
Lilith R&D works to eliminate all aspects of violence against women. We have a wide remit and our work ranges from research into various aspects of violence against women, to training and education for the women’s sector, to lobbying for legislative change and to working directly with women who have experienced sexual violence.
A major part of our work is to provide support and networking opportunities for the women’s sector – to enable them to keep up-to-date with new legislation, best practice and developments in the field.
We also work to demonstrate, through campaigning and training, that violence against women is both a cause and effect of gender inequality.
Main Purpose of role Lilith team obtained funding from the Mayor’s office for policing and crime (MOPAC) to map the scale and extent of prostitution across London. Volunteers are required primarily to support this project but also to support other activities in the team as required.
Activities involved in role
1. Provide a range of administrative and research based support to the MOPAC research project, including: a. Creating a database of statutory and non-statutory contacts for London boroughs. b. Contacting individuals and organisations in relation to different aspects of the research via telephone or email and where necessary requesting information in relation to the research aims. c. Assisting with desk based research which will include reviewing relevant literature and official statistics, collating and summarising strategies and policies, identifying and reporting on service provision within each borough and researching relevant media reporting.
1 d. For each borough, assist with collating all of the information above as well as data gathered during field work to provide a London wide overview. e. Shadowing interviews and focus groups. f. Data entry and transcription of research interviews. g. Assisting members of the team with data cleaning and analysis of research data. h. Attending team meetings and project events and where necessary taking minutes and assisting with documents for the meeting.
2. Other activities and responsibilities for the rest of the research team may include: a. Assist the Best Practice Development Officer with Eaves Women’s Weekly News (WWN) and an internal weekly news digest document on stories relating to all forms of violence against women and girls; nationally and globally. b. Updating and managing the contact database for Lilith including for WWN and the Sexual Violence Action and Awareness Network (SVAAN) c. Assist in gathering information to prepare briefings and campaign materials. d. Assist in organizing seminars and network meetings.

Experience & Knowledge
1. Some experience and knowledge of issues relating to violence against women and girls 2. Some experience and/or knowledge of conducting and producing research reports. 3. Some knowledge of planning and facilitating workshops, seminars or meetings.
Skills
4. Good interpersonal skills 5. Good organisational and administrative skills 6. IT skills, mainly Word, Excel and good with web research.
2 7. Ability to research for up to date information on legislation, news and policies both on a local and international level.

Training and Support
Eaves offers a structured placement with regular supervision and day to day support from the allocated staff members. Additional support will be provided by the research and development manager who will help you to address any concerns you may have regarding your placement.

You will based at Eaves central offices: Eaves, Unit 2.03, Canterbury Court, Kennington Business Park, 1-3 Brixton Road, London SW9 6DE
Time Commitment
For this role, we would strongly recommend that you offer to volunteer 2 - 4 days per week for a minimum of 3 months.
Expenses
Expenses will be paid to volunteers to cover travel expenses and lunches.
