Consult Hyperion celebrates 25 years of sustained business success
Guildford-based digital transactions experts continue to bolster Surrey's economy and reputation as a global centre of IT excellence
Consult Hyperion, the Guildford-based independent consultancy that specialises in the field of secure transactions in contactless smart cards and mobile devices, today celebrates its 25th anniversary as an innovative company that has enjoyed sustained growth.
The company was founded in 1986 by Neil McEvoy, Stuart Fiske and Dave Birch, with Gloria Benson, the company’s other executive director, joining them shortly afterwards. At the time of its inception, the company was based in Neil McEvoy's dining room, but in 1987 moved to offices at the Surrey Research Park in Guildford, where it steadily expanded the size of its team and its premises over the years, before purchasing its current offices, on one of Guildford’s oldest streets, The Mount, in central Guildford in 2005.
The company's very first project, a joint venture that involved both the Bank of England and the London Stock Exchange, was to automate the settlement of trades in gilts (British Government bonds). Later, the company would go on to specify and procure a series of secure networks in the City that protect over one trillion pounds of transactions every business day. Today, Consult Hyperion continues to deploy this same expertise in order to enable millions of secure transactions every day, from worldwide credit and debit card payments, through millions of bus and tube journeys taken by London’s Oyster Card users, to the hugely successful mobile phone-based money transfer service in Kenya (called M-PESA) that has truly changed the lives of its users.
"Consult Hyperion's continuing success is a direct result of our ability to combine high-level business and systems analysis with world-leading expertise in electronic payments, cryptography, smart cards, mobile phone and related technologies” says Neil McEvoy, Managing Director and Co-founder, Consult Hyperion. "Having worked with a wide array of financial institutions, telecommunications operators, governments, transit authorities and leading technology providers for 25 years, we are confident in our ability to turn new concepts into working systems for our customers, effectively and efficiently, now and in the future."
As a result of its impressive track record, Consult Hyperion is now routinely selected for major projects by blue-chip clients in Europe, North America and Asia. Notes to Editors: Over 25 of the Consult Hyperion team were joined this morning by the Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Marsha Moseley and Chaz Brooks, President of The Surrey Chambers of Commerce at the brilliant Keystone Pub, Guildford, for a superb champagne breakfast to celebrate the company’s 25th birthday. MD Neil McEvoy said a few words about how success had been through keeping good relationships with long term clients and the fact that the board over the years had hired a fantastic team, and paid tribute to all those who have helped to make the company such a success. He talked about his pleasure in being based in Guildford all this time, as it represented an excellent place to live and work… all before a toast with champagne.
