Second Grade Spelling and Vocabulary Words

Newsletter Nov. 9-13, 2015 I assign lists based on the second grade curriculum and each child’s needs. Your child should be able to read all of the words on the list. He/She will only be responsible for spelling his/her highlighted words. When we test on Friday, your child will only test on the words that are highlighted below. Spelling/Phonics (Long a spelled ai ay ea eigh ey) Students should be able to read all of these words and spell the highlighted ones. nail train main hay stay break steak weigh sleigh prey

**Review words  scrape strange

**Words we write a lot!  good often two

***Spelling for the next few weeks will follow a different format. We will be doing various spellings for long vowel sounds. It is not my intent to confuse the children, rather make them aware that long vowel sounds can have several different spellings. Because of this, all students will have the same list. The spelling tests will be multiple choice. The students will be expected to identify the correctly spelled words from a list of choices.

No school on Wednesday November 11, as we observe Veteran’s Day. If you have any veterans in your family, please pass along my sincere thanks for their service.

Our class will be heading to Trout Lake Nature Center on Friday, Nov. 13. We will leave school around 9:30 and return around 1:45. If you are listed as an approved chaperone, I am asking that you carpool or meet us at Trout Lake. Our bus will be quite full as 3 classes are going.

2nd Grade is in need of paper towel tubes. We will need one for every child by November 19th. If you have one or two to send in, we would greatly appreciate it.

Please check the website (Sunday night) for updated descriptions on what we are learning in class this week. Remember to look for the mystery word or phrase and write it in the agenda.

I love this time of year, but I am not enjoying this unseasonable heat!
