She then attended 32 Aiken Technical College; and 33 34 Whereas, she was sworn into the United States Navy delayed entry 35 program on June 1, 1982, and began Basic Training in Orlando, 36 Florida, shortly thereafter; and 37 38 Whereas, after completing her initial training, she was transferred 39 to Millington, Tennessee, for Air Traffic Control “A” School and 40 was then transferred to Naval Air Facility in Mayport, Florida, 41 where she became qualified to serve as a tower supervisor; and 42

1 [709] 1 1 Whereas, Petty Officer Person served in Sigonella, Sicily, and then 2 returned to the United States for duty as an Air Traffic Controller 3 at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida; and 4 5 Whereas, though she was a skilled and invaluable Controller, Petty 6 Officer Person decided to enter into a new field of work with the 7 Navy and began to study cryptology; and 8 9 Whereas, she received her training at Cory Station in Pensacola, 10 Florida, and was then transferred for cryptology collection duty in 11 Diego Garcia. Her first assignment in this field was to gather 12 intelligence at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area 13 Master Station in Wahiawa, Hawaii; and 14 15 Whereas, Petty Officer Person then returned to Pensacola, Florida, 16 where she worked as a Computer Programmer and Project 17 Coordinator for the Strategic Planning Department at Naval 18 Security Group Activity; and 19 20 Whereas, she currently serves at Naval Leader Training Unit and 21 shares her experiences with others to benefit the future leaders of 22 the United States Navy; and 23 24 Whereas, on September 12, 2003, Cryptologist First Class 25 Geraldine Lloyd Person will retire from her naval service with the 26 respect and admiration of all of the people who have had the 27 pleasure of working with her in her twenty years of service. Now, 28 therefore, 29 30 Be it resolved by the Senate: 31 32 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 33 express their sincere gratitude to Cryptologist First Class Geraldine 34 Lloyd Person, originally of Aiken, South Carolina, for her many 35 years of service to this State and country upon her retirement from 36 the United States Navy and wish her many years of continued 37 happiness. 38 39 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 40 Cryptologist First Class Geraldine Lloyd Person at the Center for 41 Naval Leadership in Norfolk, Virginia. 42 ----XX---- 43
