Personal Orientation Project Career Exploration Term 3

Part I---Quizzes

Instructions: Go to the website http://www.jobsetc.ca/. Under the heading Our Tools click on Career Navigator and that will bring you to a page where you have to fill out all the information before you can continue onto the quizzes. Once you are done filling out the information make sure you write down your user ID and your PASSWORD somewhere secure in case you forget them. Also, make sure you give Mr. Leclaire a copy of your user ID and PASSWORD as a precaution. Once all of that is done you can continue onto the quizzes. Leave yourself between ten and twenty minutes to complete a quiz. Complete the career quizzes listed:

Abilities Quiz Data, People, Things Quiz Multiple Intelligence Quiz Work Preference Quiz Work Values Quiz Seeing, Hearing, and Doing

A) Write a summary of the results of the quizzes in a word file and save it to your portfolio USB stick, and/or email. Do not copy and paste the information. B) Write a short personal response to each quiz detailing whether you think the results are accurate or not. Explain your answer. C) Make sure you complete all of the quizzes.

Part II---Quizzes

Go to the Website: http:// www.careercruising.com and sign in at the top with (Username: Westmount, Password: Careers). On the top, left hand corner you will see a box with Login to my plan. Click on it and there will be a drop down menu with a Create My Plan on the right hand side. Click on that and fill out all of the information. Once you have created an account you will come to the main webpage and at the top you will have a row of tabs; click on the Assessments tab and complete the Career Matchmaker, Skills, & Learning Styles Inventory in that order.

a) Write a summary of the results of the quizzes in a word file and save it to your folder or USB stick. Do not copy and paste the information. b) Write a short personal response to each quiz detailing whether you think the results are accurate or not. Explain your answer. c) Compare the Jobset quiz results with the Career Cruising results. Do the results match each other or complement each other. Write a short personal response detailing why or why they are not accurate in terms of reflecting who you think you are as a person and as a worker. Instructions for the Summary Work

Now that you have completed the quizzes on the Jobset site and the Career Cruising site choose among your list of top twenty jobs from Career Cruising one that you wouldn’t enjoy or wouldn’t consider as a job/career and another two that you would consider trying out.

Part III---Summary Work

Summary (Def): abridgment or statement of chief points of longer document, speech1 Students are required to write three summaries of professions found on the Career Cruising website. Summaries are condensed versions of the sections put into your own words a) Each of the following sections are required:  Job Description  Working Conditions  Earnings  Related Jobs (List Three) b) Of the three related jobs choose one and summarize one of the video interviews or interviews and answer the following questions:  How is it related to the primary job?  Are there significant differences between the Career Cruising descriptions and how the person talks about their job? c) Furthermore you are required to go to the Other Resources link for each of the Primary Jobs and choose one website to write about. Choose the one website that provides different information or additional information than the Career Cruising website and write one third of a page report on that website detailing its content. Questions: 1) What product or service is the website providing? 2) Can you navigate the website easily or do you find it organized in a way that makes it hard to find information? 3) Is the information useful and helpful in your exploration? **Always remember to provide a Sources page (a bibliography of the websites you have chosen to write about including Career Cruising) detailing the websites who have used to write your reports.

Personal Response Questions Term 3

Answer these questions for each of the jobs you researched.

 What were the positive aspects of the jobs you explored?

 What were the negative aspects of the jobs you researched?

 Did you think that the salary level of the jobs in question made sense with the demands of the profession?

 What surprised you about the professions you explored? Mention at least two things for each job you explored.

 Do you find that the educational demands of the careers made you more or less interested in pursuing the job in the future? Explain why.
