A Doll’s House Literary Analysis Research Essay

Your Task We have spent the entire school year writing about literature; now it is time to show what you know! You will be writing an 8-10 page literary analysis about a theme of your choice in A Doll’s House.

We will not spend a considerable amount of class time on this essay. Much of the work will need to be completed outside of class. We will continue on in our lessons to review for the AP Exam, and you will have other readings and assignments to complete in the meantime. Budget your time wisely, and keep on top of due dates. Do not procrastinate! Please note that this is a major component of your fourth quarter grade.

In order to make this assignment more manageable, the project has been broken down into several components, each with its own due date.

Components & Due Dates  Thesis: A preliminary, printed statement that details the nature of your essay. The thesis and explanation should be roughly 1 paragraph in length (double spaced). It should detail a specific area or topic that the essay will explore. This must be typed. The due date for this portion is Thursday, March 27th. 20 points.  Working Bibliography: A working bibliography is a list of citations of books and articles that you consider using as you plan to write your essay. You must have a minimum of five sources listed on your working bibliography. (It is beneficial to have 2-3 extra sources in case a source does not seem as promising as you first believed.) The due date for this portion is Tuesday, April 1st. 20 points.  Research Notes: There are various options available to you for keeping notes. Pick one. Students should have a minimum of 25 pieces of evidence. Pieces of evidence may be either paraphrased or direct quotations. Make sure each piece of evidence is complete with citation information. The due date for this portion is Friday, April 18th. 20 points.  Rough draft: All students will take part in the peer editing process. Completion of a typed rough draft and editing of two other students’ essays are required. The due date for this portion is Wednesday, April 25th. 40 points (draft completion & peer editing combined).

The final draft of this essay is due April 30th. ***The Final Essay is worth 200 points. It will be scored according to the Advanced Placement 9 point scoring guide. All preliminary work will total an additional possible 100 points.
