This conference will be held in Jacksonville, Florida and we are expecting 100+ participants. CALL FOR PRESENTERS
Are you interested in being a part of the Florida American Sign Language Teachers Associa- tion’s 2011 Annual Conference? FASLTA is seeking proposals for creative, exciting, and infor- mative conference workshops that will broaden horizons, enrich experiences, and challenge par- ticipants. The theme of the Conference is “Make It Real” and will be held in Jacksonville, Flori- da. We are expecting 100+ participants to be in attendance and would like to invite you to join us, February 25th-27th, 2011 as we continue to explore the practice of teaching ASL.
Participants at our annual conferences include Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing individuals from Florida as well as other states who are currently teaching or interested in ASL instruction for foreign language, interpreting, or personal interest. All participants are expected to be fluent in ASL. All workshops will be conducted in ASL without voice interpretation. ASLTA profes- sional development points and RID CEUs will be provided to participants. So are you interest- ed? You are invited to submit workshop proposal which fits into our theme, “Make It Real” The list below is not inclusive of all possible topics, we welcome your ideas as well. You may submit more than one proposal, however please be sure to use a separate form for each workshop. Workshop forms will be submitted electronically at http://www.faslta.org/SubmitProposal.html. 1. Presentation Length: The majority of workshop time slots will be 60 minutes in length. Longer workshops will be considered if they address the needs of entry-level or seasoned teachers.
2. Presentation Format: (Handouts are encouraged) Presentation- a lecture or paper on a topic of interest or issues Workshop-Hands-on experience to learn and apply new skills or techniques Be certain that your topic is relevant to the concerns of the professionals in the field Show originality, creativity and/or new insight Be sure that your proposal describes specifically what the presenter(s) and participants will do, and avoid general terms such as “discussion”,” review” or “lecture” Make your presentation as active and interactive as possible, as appropriate to content Describe clearly how participants will be able to use the presented information
3. Call for Proposals Timeline: Deadline for submission of proposals: November 15, 2010. Selected presenters will be notified via email by December 15, 2010. Presenters must confirm participation by December 31, 2010.
4. Criteria of Selection: Presentation proposals will be selected based on the following criteria: Quality of the proposal (rationale, objectives, organization) Practical application for ASL instruction Innovation and creativity Program balance Presenters will be notified by email of acceptance or rejection of proposal on an ongoing basis (until all slots are filled), as proposals are received and reviewed Presenters whose proposals are accepted, must confirm participation no later than December 31, 2010.

PLEASE NOTE: Conference registration is required for all presenters. You will be given the PREMIER rate at $75.00. All pre- senters are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meals. If you require any presentation aids other than those pro- vided (i.e. wireless mouse, overhead projector, TV and/or VCR, chart paper, or other equipment) you must include that informa- tion with your proposal.
