Touching Spirit Bear By Ben Mikaelsen Project Choices – Ms. Brewer’s 7th Grade Classes

Due: Thursday, October 14 th (you may turn in earlier)

Rules for the project:

1. The project must be completed as homework. You will not work on these in class. 2. You will be graded on thoroughness, your display of knowledge of the book, creativity, and the obvious thought and hard work you have put into this project. 3. Choose one project. This will be a test grade.

Project 1: Written Report You will research and write a 2 page report that includes photos or drawings. Select one of the following topics: Spirit Bears, Circle Justice, Totem Poles, or Juvenile delinquency.

Project 2: Model of the Island You are to construct a 3-dimensional model of the island. Be sure to include all of the landmarks discussed in the novel and use your imagination to picture the rest of the island. Your grade will depend upon the accuracy of places on the island, overall visual appeal of the project, and creativity.

Project 3: Creating a Totem Pole You are to carve, paint, or construct a totem pole that reflects you and your life at this point. You are to include a minimum of 4 figures on your totem pole. For each figure on your totem pole, you must write a 5 sentence paragraph explaining the meaning of each symbol and its significance to the novel. Attach your explanation to your totem pole.

Project 4: Design a Movie Poster You will design an original movie poster for the novel. Produce on poster board. Poster must include artwork and promotional copy. Be creative!
