RATIONALE FOR THE COURSE: This course will complete your basic knowledge and understanding of financial accounting as well as giving you the basic tools needed to do simple financial analysis.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the application of accounting principles and concepts to account evaluation and income determination, including special problems peculiar to corporations and the analysis of financial reports.

PREREQUISITES: ACC 201

REQUIRED MATERIALS:  TEXTBOOK: Please visit the Bookstore online site for most current textbook information. Unit I – Chapters 9 and 10

A. Compare activity, straight-line, and decreasing-charge methods of depreciation. B. Explain the accounting issues related to asset impairment. C. Explain the accounting procedures for depletion. D. Unit III – Chapters 13 and 14

HOMEWORK: All assignments will be completed in WileyPlus. Problems will be graded as soon as they're completed. There is a due date for each problem and problems WILL NOT be accepted late. Practice exercises have been assigned in WileyPlus for you to practice the work. These items are not graded; however, they will assist you in preparing for the homework assignments and your exams. You will prepare the solutions to homework assignments online and they will be graded by WileyPlus for immediate feedback. All of the homework is designed to be used by you as a learning tool. To that end, you can click on the link button if you are unsure of a concept and you will be directed online to the specific section of the text where the concept is located. If you answer incorrectly, the problem will give you hints to point you to the correct answer. Homework assignments MUST be submitted in a timely manner. The due date is displayed for each assignment in WileyPlus as well as on the D2L course homepage. You will also be required to contact the HGTC Career Resource Center to complete a mock telephone interview and a mock face to face interview. Complete directions can be found in D2L under Assignments, Dropbox.

EXAMS: There will be 4 exams on various units of the text, as well as a comprehensive final exam.

QUIZZES: You will have a 10-question multiple choice quiz following each chapter. These quizzes are worth 10 points each and will be completed in WileyPlus. Dates for these quizzes are posted on the D2L course homepage.

Grades earned in courses impact academic progression and financial aid status. Before withdrawing from a course, be sure to talk with your instructor and financial aid counselor about the implications of that course of action. Ds, Fs, Ws, WFs and Is also negatively impact academic progression and financial aid status.

The Add/Drop Period is the first 5 days of the semester for full term classes. Add/Drop periods are shorter for accelerated format courses. This week of the semester is also Financial Aid Attendance Verification period. You must attend at least one meeting of all of your classes during that period. If you do not, you will be dropped from the course(s) and your Financial Aid will be reduced accordingly. The following is from the HGTC College Catalog: Academic Dishonesty – All forms of academic dishonesty including, but not limited to, cheating on tests, plagiarism, collusion, and falsification of information will call for discipline. 1. Cheating on tests is defined to include the following: a. Copying from another student’s test b. Using materials during a test not authorized by the person giving the test c. Knowingly obtaining, using, buying, selling, transporting, or soliciting in whole or part the contents of an un-administered test e. Bribing any other person to obtain tests or information about tests f. Substituting for another student or permitting any other person to substitute for oneself. 2. “Plagiarism” is defined as the appropriation of any other person’s work and the unacknowledged incorporation of that work in one’s own work offered for credit. Academic dishonesty and plagiarism will result in discipline. You are expected to always be academically honest and to always do (and submit) your own work.
