2015 Plein Air Peninsula CALL TO ARTISTS:

Celebrating the importance of the Cuyahoga River and the beauty of the river valley, the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, presents Plein Air Peninsula 2015. This year’s event, which will celebrate the beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley, the River and the Village of Peninsula, will take place in and around the Village and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Plein Air Peninsula 2015 will be held June 5, 6 and 7, 2015. Please join us in this artistic event and help celebrate the wonder and beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley. A juried exhibit of some of the works created during the competition will be on display and will be available for sale at the John F. Seiberling Gallery in the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park Administrative Offices at 1403 West Hines Hill Road, Peninsula, June 12 thru July 30, 2015. Select award winning pieces will be displayed at the Conservancy’s Trail Mix Peninsula store. Awards will be presented at the artists’ reception on Sunday, June 14, from 2 to 4pm at the John F. Seiberling Gallery.

Judging and Prizes: Awards will include: Best of show: $500 Second place: $300, Third place: $200, Honorable Mentions and Winking Lizard People’s Choice award. This year’s judge is Ron Beahn.

Eligibility: The Competition is open to artists, 18 years of age and over. Employees of the National Park, the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and members of the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce may enter but are ineligible for awards.

Format: Original two-dimensional art in any medium other than photography may be created during this event. No three-dimensional or computer generated work will qualify. Canvas/paper plus frame shall be less than or equal to 28” in any one direction. All pieces must be ready for hanging.

Exhibition Venue: Works created during the competition will be juried and those selected will be displayed at Seiberling Gallery June 12 thru July 30, 2015. A selection of award winning pieces will be displayed in the gallery at the Conservancy’s Trail Mix Peninsula store. All artwork will be for sale with 60% to the artist and 40% to the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC). Winning artwork will be featured on www.explorepeninsula.com

Criteria: Each artist may submit 2 pieces for jurying. The judge shall determine which entries will be exhibited. All paintings exhibited will be judged in the competition and will be eligible for awards.

Artwork must be created on site in the true plein air style and may not be worked on off site or generated from reference photos. Styles may range from realism to abstract, and must be in keeping with the impromptu style of plein air.

All sales of artwork during the competition (June 5-7) must be made through the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC).

Application: Applications will be received by mail or phone through June 7th. A $35 registration fee will assist in covering the cost of the juror, prizes and logistics. Checks, payable to PACC, are preferred. Credit cards will be accepted

Please include your Artist statement/bio with the entry form. Procedure: Artists must check in at Peninsula Art Academy and have their blank surfaces stamped, 1600 West Mill Street, (across from the depot station). Phone 330-657-2248. Artists are encouraged to bring as many canvases/papers as they wish to create during the competition. You may come to Elements Gallery Thursday night for stamping and info so you may get an early start on Friday morning.

All canvases/papers must be stamped to be accepted for judging.

Designated sites only 8am-5pm Deliver completed artwork, Peninsula Art Academy 5pm-7pm Peninsula After Hours, Village Wide events (TBA) 6pm-9pm Voices in the Valley: Live music at the historic GAR Hall. Admission. Food and beverages available for purchase. (TBA)

Saturday, June 6: 8am-5pm Registration and stamping, Peninsula Art Academy. 8am-5pm Paint out: Peninsula area sites. 8am-5pm Deliver completed artwork, Peninsula Art Academy 6pm-9pm Evening events TBA

Sunday, June 7: 8am-3pm Registration and stamping, Peninsula Art Academy. 8am-5pm Paint out: Peninsula area sites 8am-5pm Deliver completed artwork, Peninsula Art Academy NO SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 5PM SUNDAY.

Artists may deliver up to 2 completed works to be juried. Finished works must be framed, with picture hanging wire attached. Gallery wrap is discouraged. Pick Up of Art: Pick up of artwork from the Seiberling Gallery will be Friday, July 31st from 9 to 4 pm. Saturday August 1st 9am-11am

Other arrangements may be made by calling 330-858-2926. Any items not picked up by August 8 or without prior arrangement become the property of the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce and may be donated.

Payment must be received before your canvases/paper will be stamped, and may be made with cash, check (preferred) or by major credit card. All checks should be made out to the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC). To pay by credit card, contact Chris Weigand at 330-858-8926.

The Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park advise artists to insure their work. While all work will be handled with the utmost care, the above-mentioned entities do not assume responsibility for loss or damage of submitted works from any cause whatsoever. The undersigned artist agrees to the terms of the exhibit and the waiver of responsibility. All artwork will be for sale with 60% to the artist and 40% to the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC). Any items not picked up by August 8 without prior arrangement become the property of the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce and may be donated.
