MLA Format Research Paper Checklist Format: My research paper has been prepared using the following format standards: __Typed in 12-point font __Times New Roman font __ Double spaced __ Black ink __One inch margins around __ No extra spaces between paragraphs Introduction: My research paper includes an introduction that has: __ an interesting hook that captures attention __ a strong thesis statement __ no phrases resembling, “In this paper you’ll learn...” or “After reading this paper...” Body: Sources and Plagiarism: __ My research paper contains accurate information from credible scholarly sources. These sources contain reliable and current information on my topic. This paper is written in my own words. Direct quotations and paraphrases have citations. Note: I understand that if any part of this research paper has been copied from a source without proper citations, it is considered plagiarism. Plagiarism is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and I will receive a grade of zero for this. Internal Citing: My research paper includes internal citations according to the following standards: __ 4 sources cited parenthetically (because they are either directly quoted or paraphrased) in the proper format. Example: (Davis 19). __ Credit is given each time that the information is used, even if it is paraphrased or summarized. __ Each source listed on my works cited page is cited at least once within my paper. __ My paper includes at least 4 direct quotations and 4 paraphrases and/or summaries Conclusion: My research paper includes a conclusion that has: __ A logical closing that ties together the main points of my paper. __ A unique closing statement that does not repeat the opening statement and leaves the reader with something to think about. __ No phrases resembling, “In this paper you have learned...” or “Now that you’ve read my paper...” Works Cited Page: __Entries are alphabetized according to the author’s last name. __ Entries are not numbered. __ Entries should be double-spaced. __ Entries should be formatted with a “hanging indent” Conventions (grammar and spelling): __ I have spent time proofreading and editing my paper, and it is virtually error free.
