CHANDLER, Ariz. – [December 19, 2017] – Jarabe Mexicano performs in Chandler on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Bursting onto the Latin music scene with extraordinary momentum, Jarabe Mexicano is committed to honoring the past while embracing the future. True to their name, the group performs a mixture of traditional as well as popular genres. Tickets are $24 & $28.
Jarabe Mexicano hit the Latin music scene in 2015, electrifying audiences throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Performing on traditional mariachi instruments accompanied by lively percussion, Jarabe’s arrangements feature stunning harmonized vocals in Spanish and English. Along with traditional boleros, huapangos, sones, and rancheras, audiences thrill to their upbeat cumbias, revamped rock & roll hits, and reggae classics. The irresistible synergy between lead vocalist Gustavo Alcoser, musical director Mario Eguia on requinto, Kevin Lomes on vihuela, Chris Behrens on guitarrón, and Alejandro Tapia on percussion and guitar leaves audiences chanting for encores! They truly are excellent and they bring new “blood” to the musical traditions they perform. Every single one of the musicians is hugely talented.
Jarabe takes a special interest in celebrating Latino cultures through programming such as their Cinco de Mayo Concert in the Park in their home-base of San Diego and their upcoming Día de los Muertos multi- city tour. In 2016, the band embarked on a U.S. Consulate-sponsored outreach tour of Baja California Sur where they represented the U.S. at the 10th Annual International Arts & Culture Festival for Peace (La Paz, Mexico).
With extensive backgrounds in music education, members of Jarabe have established strong ties to local community organizations including the City Heights Music School, the Road Scholar Senior Education program, and other arts programs throughout San Diego. Nationwide artist residency venues for the 2017-2018 season include the Latino Arts String Program (Milwaukee), the Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago), the Guadalupe School (Salt Lake City), Chandler Center for the Arts (Arizona), and the Vilar Performing Arts Center (Colorado). They also have a clear affinity for collegiate audiences with upcoming concerts and residencies at the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs), Ft. Lewis College (Durango), Arizona State University (Gammage), and at El Camino College (Torrance, CA).
