Who do you love?

Inspirational message of Rev. Revita De Chalus given by God 12/27/02

What type of love are we talking about? Love as a tender feeling of affection, or attachment, or devotion for someone or something. We will focus on attachment and devotion. Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. This is the first commandment that God gave Moses; the first of the Ten Commandments. When we love God, we are attached or connected to God. We take God with us wherever we go. When we are devoted to God, we admire, respect, and want to please God.

How do we take God with us wherever we go? John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, “If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” We must try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ to show our love for Him. Love is more than words; it is action that supports the words. Where can you find the teachings of Jesus Christ? You can find the teachings in the Bible.

What about loving items: cars, money, etc? Remember the definition of love that we are using; attachment and devotion. 1John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Can you have more than one attachment? Not really. There will be times when you have to choose , and at that moment you will know what your attachment is. That is why you can not show love for items and God. You can show your likes and love God.

In Moses’ time, God spoke unto Moses to let the people know what acts displeased him. Some of these acts can be found in Leviticus 18. We want to please God, so these activities we should not be involved in. Verse 6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the Lord. This verse refers to sexual activity among blood relatives; incest. I am the Lord emphasizes that God would not be pleased. Verses 7 – 17 specify all the different types of family relatives where this should not occur, in case there were questions. Verse 20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbor’s wife, to defile thyself with her. This verse refers to adultery. Verse 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind… This verse refers to homosexuality. Verse 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto.. This verse refers to bestiality.

These rules were made because situations happened. Nothing is new regarding these temptations for people. 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. If you are involved in any of the above situations, repent of your sins and ask God to help you. Trust God, ask God to help you, and be open to God showing you how to handle your situation. Everyone is guilty of falling to temptation. We must ask for forgiveness and turn away from the temptation. No one is worse than anyone else for falling to temptation. No temptation is worse than any other temptation. God can help you change to the plan He has for you. Let’s take time to ask for forgiveness for falling to temptation and allowing any thing to come before our love for God.

The community of believers will support and encourage you. Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Should we not love people? We should love people, as long as our love of God is first, and that we are not displeasing God by going against the Bible. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God: and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Who do you love? Love God with all your heart; then love one another.

What if you don’t know God? We can help you ask Him into your life. First, admit that you are a sinner in need of a savior. Second, tell Him that you believe that Jesus died for your sins, and rose from the dead. Third, let God know that you want Jesus to rule in your heart and your life. Tell Him that you appreciate the gift He gave because He loves you and you want to show that you love Him. If you told Him and believe in your heart that it is true, you have now joined the community of believers. Please let us know so that we may celebrate with you.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
