Pass Cone Kickball

Pass Cone Kickball

Equipment needed: 1 kickball, 6 large cones, 6 bases or 3 mats Set-up: 2 cones at home plate area for a kicking line and a running line. Other 4 cones set-up across the field about 20 feet in front of the kicking area. Bases or mats are spread out like a baseball/softball diamond(distance depends on age and ability) Pitcher should pitch between the 4 cones.

Rules: Offense- has 1 kicker and 2 runners. When the kicker kicks the ball into play the runners join in as run the bases as fast as they can. The goal is to make it around the bases and back to home before the defense completes their task. 1 point is awarded for each runner that makes it all the way around.

Defense- The goal is to make the specified number of passes and then knock over a cone before the runners make it all the way around the bases. Depending on the ages level or functionality of the class I usually adjust the number of passes and catches that need to be made. Example for 5th grade we usually start with 6 passes. One rule that stays the same is that the defense and only touch the ball once. When they have caught and then passed the ball to the next teammate they must kneel down. The defense must also shout out loud what number pass they are on. When the final person catches the ball they must then run up to a cone and throw it to knock it over. If they miss or the cone does not stay down they must get the ball and try again. When they are successful at doing this before all the runners make it around they get an out. The defense must get 3 outs to end the inning. Other rules: -If a defender catches the ball it counts as 3 passes, so when they pass to a teammate it should be number 4. -If a person touches the ball for a second time the catch does not count. -If they knock over the cones before completing all the passes, it does not count. -Once a cone has been knocked over it stays down until the inning is over. The defense must go after another cone the next time.

DAPE adaptations: -Don’t use the cones -Fewer number of passes -Play with only a kicker and no extra runners -Allowed more than 1 touch -Have a replacement kicker or runner
