April King Google Docs allows students to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and forms that can be shared between multiple authors in multiple locations. The documents are stored online, and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection.

STEP 1 – CREATE A GOOGLE ACCOUNT

1. Open your web browser and go to http://docs.google.com. a. OR www.google.com b. Type Google Docs c. Click 1st site “Welcome to Google Docs”

2. Click Get Started

*If you already have a Google account (such as gmail) you can use the same username and password and can skip to step 2 and log in.

3. Complete the registration form and click

4. You will receive a confirmation email from Google Accounts. Click the link in your email to complete your registration. NOTE: Students must use their school email address, so that they can access the email at school to confirm their account.

5. You should then see a screen that says “Thank you for verifying your Google Account. Your account is now activated.” Click on:

6. You will now be logged in to the main page of your Google Docs account. STEP 2 – LOGGING IN AFTER YOU HAVE CREATED GOOGLE ACCOUNT

1. Go to http://docs.google.com and sign in.

Be sure to write down and remember your password.

STEP 3 – CREATING OR UPLOADING A DOCUMENT

Click on A. Create New and then, B. Select the type of document you would like to create. A

B You can type, save, and edit your document just like a Word document. Your new document will open. To Double Space – a. Format b. Document Settings c. Change “Line-Spacing” to Double Spaced d. Click “Ok”

To change view – a. View b. Fixed-width page

To upload a document that is already saved on your computer. 1. Click UPLOAD. 2. Select files to upload 3. Browse your computer to find the file you wish to upload.

4. Click START UPLOAD

5. Once the file had uploaded, you can click the title and open it. Your document can now be edited in Google Docs. STEP 4 – SHARING A DOCUMENT WITH OTHERS

1. Select a document. 2. Click on SHARE and select INVITE PEOPLE. 3. Type the email address of the person with which you would like to share the document. 4. Type a message. (optional) 5. Click SEND. 6. Click SAVE AND CLOSE

The other person will now be able to comment on and edit your document.
