WILLIAMSTOWN JR./SR. HIGH SCHOOL SBDM COUNCIL MINUTES February 3, 2015 @5:30pm in ROOM 36 (HS Computer Lab)

I. Opening Business  The meeting was called to order at 5:37pm.  The following members were present for the meeting: Brandy Feagan, Paradise Forbes, Bryan Winkle, Shelli Johnson, Mark Jump, Susan Fugazzi, Alicia Johnson, Sonya Linder, Angel Crump, Heidi Tien, and Sheila Whaley.  The February Agenda was approved by consensus.  The January Minutes were approved by consensus.  Good News Reports o Congratulations to Mr. Benjamin Kinsey on winning 2nd place in the STATE 2014 Conservation Writing Contest, which includes a check for $150. Ben will be recognized at the Grant County Conservation District Art & Writing Contest Banquet on Tuesday, March 17, and will also attend an awards ceremony in conjunction with Kentucky Biodiversity Day at the State Capitol on February 19th! o Congratulations to Mrs. Carly Middleton for earning a $1500 scholarship for entering the Kentucky Ready-Mixed Concrete Association’s Essay Contest! o Congratulations to the following Academic Team Members for Qualifying for Governor’s Cup Regionals: Brett Robbins 3rd Place Social Studies; Jake Rich 3rd Place Language Arts; Collin Davis 5th Place Arts & Humanities; & Carly Middleton 5th Place English Composition. o Congratulations to the JV & Varsity Cheer Squads for winning first place at the NKCCA Competition at NKU in the Game Time Fight Song Category. There were also 14 cheerleaders who were recognized for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher: Jacy Adams, Becca Angell, Kaylee Hicks, Ariana Johnson, Avery March, Stephanie O’Banion, Mallory Palmer, Katie Richie, Amber Tien, Miranda Goetz, Morgan Lewis, Brooklyn Jump, Morgan Thompson, & Ashley Robinson. Congratulations to Karri Edmondson, JV Coach, and Alicia Johnson, Varsity Coach, for the girls’ success. o Congratulations to Ariana Johnson & Jacy Adams for earning scholarships at the NKCCA Competition at NKU. o Congratulations to FCCLA Students Ryan Parsons, Braydon Dungan, and Megan Robinson, who received first place and a gold medal for their Star Events Projects at the Regional Competition. The team also received the Good Sportsmanship Award at both regionals and district. o Congratulations to Archery Team 1, who came in 2nd place at their tournament this past weekend at Harrison County. Tyler Nickell and Brooklyn Wainscott both came in 3rd place in their age group at the Harrison County Tournament. o Congratulations to Cody Wolfe who came in 3rd place in his age group, and Brooklyn Wainscott, who came in 2nd place in her age group, at the Archery tournament at Twenhofel.  There was no public comment.

II. Student Achievement a) Student Achievement Report—Mrs. Feagan shared the student achievement report with the Council. This month’s report was based on students’ Winter MAP Test Results. A discussion was held among the Council.

The goal for the middle school is 61.1, and the goal for high school is 72.5. Based on the new AMO, all schools in the district are in the “Needs Improvement” category. A discussion was held to discuss the drop in percentile ranking for both the middle and high schools.

III. Planning a) Monthly Review a. Monthly Review—Mrs. Feagan shared a copy of the monthly calendar with the Council members. The Council briefly discussed some of the important upcoming events, including Homecoming on Feb. 14th, and senior night for Boys’ Varsity Basketball and Cheerleading on February 19th.

IV. Program Reviews a) Recommendations & Findings—Mrs. Feagan shared with Council that respective departments reviewed Program Review requirements at Early Release on January 28th. Good discussions were held among the departments, and Mrs. Feagan will enter the new data into ASSIST to share with SBDM and school faculty before the information must be submitted in June.

V. Budget Report • All budgets were reviewed and approved by consensus. All accounts are in good standing, with the exception of the Track program still owing money (approximately $1000) to the Athletic Department fund.

VI. Policy Review a) Council members turned in their assigned policies. Mrs. Feagan will combine the policies into one document for Council to review and revise in the coming months. Council reviewed and revised the following policies at this month’s meeting: Curriculum and Alignment with State Standards, Activity/Graduation Attendance Policy, Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities, Determination of School Schedule, and Determination of School Space. VII. New Business

a) Community Based Instruction, submitted by Mrs. Sagraves, was approved by SBDM for the following dates & venues: a. Feb. 26—Wal-Mart Dry Ridge & LaRosa’s b. March 26—Kelly Brothers’ Lumber & Cracker Barrel c. April 17—Big Bone Lick State Park d. May 7—Georgetown Movie Theater & Fazoli’s
