LEGENDARY ROUND HILL HOSTS FESTIVE WEEKEND OF EVENTS BENEFFITING HANOVER CHARITIES
NEW YORK, NY (March 3, 2011) – A record-breaking 340 participants including socialites, ambassadors, celebrities, and business leaders from the United States, Europe and Jamaica gathered at the world-renowned Round Hill Hotel & Villas on February 19, 2011 for a weekend of festivities to raise nearly $200,000 for Hanover Charities, the largest charitable organization in Western Jamaica.
Round Hill, located in the Hanover Parish, has been a major supporter of the Hanover Charities with its annual Sugar Cane Ball every February since 1957 when the charity was founded. Hanover Charities plays a major role in the Parish and covers a wide range of projects for its citizens from very young to old. Funds generated from the weekend’s events will go towards the foundation’s several initiatives including implementing programs aimed to strengthen reading and computer skills in communities, funding soup kitchens and health clinics, supplying basic necessities to the disabled and elderly, and contributing scholarships to local deserving students.
The theme of this year’s Sugar Cane Ball was “Alice in Wonderland.” Chaired by Katrin Schafelner Casserly of Hanover Charities and hosted by “Mad Hatter” Josef Forstmayr, the Managing Director of Round Hill, guests arrived decked out in festive attire and enjoyed classic Jamaican cocktails as they danced the night away and placed their bids for the silent auction. This year, auction items included a visit to the set of NCIS with actor Michael Weatherly and shoes from famed designer Vanessa Noel. The following day, the group gathered at the Chukka Blue Ranch for the Hanover Charities Polo Invitational, also hosted by Round Hill.
Notables attending these events included Ivana Trump, Ralph and Ricky Lauren, Bob and Veronique Pittman, Chris Blackwell, Daisy Soros, Sylvia von Hohenberg, Helga Wagner, Helmut Koller, David and Gillian Gilmour, Michael Weatherly, Ann Colley members of the Brenninkmeyer family and fundraising committee co-chairs Candace Hart and Violet Lewis and husband Lennox. Also in attendance were current US Ambassador to Barbados Mary Ourisman, former US Ambassador Brenda La Grange Johnson and husband Howard, Ambassador Pamela Bridgewater, Ambassador Leonora Rueda, Ambassador Celsa Nuno.
“Round Hill is delighted to work with Hanover Charities to raise money for their incredible charitable efforts,” said Josef Forstmayr, Managing Director of Round Hill. “Through their work, our gracious guests and friends are able to play a role in changing the landscape of Jamaica and making a difference in the lives of those in need.”
