Meeting Minutes November 29, 2010

I. Call to order

The meeting was called to order at 3:40pm by Marisa Crabtree.

II. Roll Call

The following members were present: Gilbert Martinez, Susan Geiger, Connie Borja Marisa Crabtree, Ali Lauer, Fatima Romero-Flores, Antonia Hernandez, Annie Loau, Balvina Siquieros, and Jose Torres.

The following guests were present: Daniel Gil, Ricardo Rosas, Sissi O’Reilly, Maricella Rosales, Ana Guzman, and Alex Vasquez.

III. Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting

The minutes from November 08, 2010 were reviewed. No corrections were made.

III. Open Issues

A. Fall Finals Schedule Revision

1. Two new final schedules were presented: Schedule A and Schedule B. The only significant difference between the two being that Schedule had 6 extra minutes for lunch.

2. A motion that we use Schedule A for Monday and Tuesday was made by Gilbert Martinez and seconded by Ali Lauer. The motion was approved (unanimous [8]) at 4:10pm.

3. A motion that we make Wednesday odd and Thursday even was made by Annie Loau and seconded by Jose Torres. The motion was denied (3 yays, 4 yays, and 2 abstentions) at 4:15pm.

1 4. After much discussion, the decision was made to use the entire schedule A for Fall 2010 finals:

2 B. Student Life

1. Student life issues need to be addressed in the near future; for example, tardy policy and student dress code. The student life committee needs to establish a time for meetings.

C. Spring 2010 Bell Schedule Discussion

1. Ms. O’Reilly asked if we convert the schedule to odd, even, odd, even, odd, even, odd, even will students lose the ability to do work experience because it of the difficulty of telling their employers what days they can work? The Legislature discussed the idea at link and ultimately decided to do a stakeholder survey asking people if they want to keep the schedule as it is or convert to odd , even, odd, even, odd etc and eliminate advisories on Tuesdays so that we can have more instructional minutes. Ms. Geiger is going to put a survey in boxes for teachers to administer during advisories. Mr. Gil is going to survey parents.

D. Proposal for a lunchtime dance on Friday December 1, 2010

1. A motion to approve a one hour long lunch on Friday December 10, 2010 for a school dance sponsored by the leadership class was made by Susan Geiger and seconded by Marissa Crabtree. The motion was approved (unanimous [8]) at 4:30pm.

III. Next Meeting & Adjournment

A. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Monday December 13, 2010 at 3:30pm in the LHS library. Members should email Marisa Crabtree with any suggestions for the agenda.

B. A motion to adjourn was made by Susan Geiger and seconded by Ali Lauer. The motion was approved (unanimous) at 4:35pm.
