SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maintaining, installing, operating and repairing wiring systems, equipment and related apparatus.

Duties & Responsibilities:  Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts such as brushes and armatures.  Installs and maintains various types of motors, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers.  Installs and monitors performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.  Installs grounding leads.  Interprets blueprints; works from sketches or verbal instructions.  Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical fixtures, apparatus, equipment, wiring, and new services to include panels, breakers, and conduit.  Mounts motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.  Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.  Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls.  Lead, guide, and/or train apprentices in applicable procedures and techniques;  Operate and maintain high voltage switchgear and controls; repair and maintain motor control centers and programmable logic controls.  Troubleshoot and repair primary distribution system malfunctions such as ground fault tracing and cable replacement;  Diagnose problems and/or failures in electrical panels and systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs;  Plan electrical secondary system additions or modifications;  Change ballasts, lights, components, fixtures throughout the campus as needed;  Work through the TMA work order system to prioritize and plan out work assignments daily;  Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices;  Inform supervisor of procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations;  Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of such tools for safe operating conditions;  Participate in workshops, trainings, and seminars for gathering information required to perform job functions;  Prepare written materials (i.e., repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information;  Repair or replace a variety of electrical items, systems, and/or components for the purpose of ensuring a safe working environment;  Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair;  Respond daily to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns;  Transport a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of materials as required at the job site;  Read, employ, and update electrical panel schedules and building or system blueprints;  Maintain regular attendance;  Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:  EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED  EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Journeyman Electrician's License; Second Electrical License or a License in a Related Construction Trade.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must hold a valid journeyman Electrician Certification (EE-98J or EE-1J) accepted by the New Mexico Construction Industries Division;  Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.  Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, odd hours, and emergency calls  Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.  Ability to install and maintain motors, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers.  Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.  Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.  Ability to install grounding leads.  Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.  Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.  Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers.  Ability to schedule activities; gather collate, and/or classify data.  Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.  Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.  Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.  Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.  Ability to problem solve is required to identify issues and create action plans.  Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and meet deadlines.  Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
