Tue 11th Oct-Getting help for guests with addictions 7.30pm Littleover Methodist Church, Constable Drive, Littleover, Derby, DE23 6EP Aquarius are an agency in the city working with various programmes to see those with addictions set free and supported in the process. Come and find out what they do and how we can get guests to engage with their programmes Tue 18th Oct-Drugs and Alcohol Awareness 7.30pm Ashbourne Rd Methodist/URC Church, 94 Ashbourne Road, Derby, DE22 3AG A GP and member of the police drug squad take us through what drugs and alcohol are out there and how they effect our guests. Thu 20th Oct-Fire safety and awareness 7.30pm Riverside Centre, Riverside Court, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8HY We are aware it is important to keep our guests safe and know what to do in the event of a fire. Come along to get some awareness and training by a fire safety officer from the fire service. It would be good if at least every venue was represented! Sun 23rd Oct-Footwashing Church 4pm Come and find out what will be involved in one of our new ventures for this year, a Sunday afternoon refuge for our female guests to get a shower, foot spa,and relax. Female volunteers only Tue 25th Oct-Suicide Awareness 7.30pm Riverside Centre, Riverside Court, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8HY Some of our guests have conversations around suicidal tendencies or self- harming and we want to equip volunteers how to handle that kind of information and how to help our guests. This session run by a GP will be a great equipper to volunteers. Wed 26th Oct-Understanding homelessness 7.30pm Hope Centre, 18 Curzon Street, Derby, DE1 1LL There are many definitions of homelessness and this is a great workshop to get an understanding of homelessness and equip us better to know how to help our guests. Tue 1st Nov-Catering 7.30pm Littleover Methodist Church, Constable Drive, Littleover, Derby, DE23 6EP If you are wanting to be involved in catering at all, so be that in the evenings, breakfasts or at guest support come along to this session, and also meet our new food coordinator. Find out what is involved, find out what team and venue you will be serving at. Also bring any questions you may have Wed 2nd Nov-Guest Support 10am Ozzy Road Baptist Church, Charnwood Street, Derby, DE1 2GU 7.30pm St Alkmunds Church, 40 Kedleston Road, Derby, DE22 1GU Guest support is a great activity the nightshelter is involved in to see our guests find solutions to their situations. If you are thinking of being involved in Guest Support you need to get to one of these sessions. Thu 3rd Nov- Handling Conflict 7.30pm Venue New Life Christian Centre, access via Holmes Street Mon 7th Nov-Mental health Awareness 7.30pm Littleover Methodist Church, Constable Drive, Littleover, Derby, DE23 6EP Many of our guests display behaviour which could be down to underlying mental health issues. Come along to find out how to identify mental health and how to get guests help. The session is run by a member of the NHS Mental Health Team. Wed 9th Nov-Sharing faith and listening skills 7.30pm Hope Centre, 18 Curzon Street, Derby, DE1 1LL This is a workshop for those volunteers who are Christians, to receive some training on how to share about our faith without it being forced or heavy. Also how to listen to guests and how to offer prayer in a sensitive way. We have great opportunities to tell our guests about Jesus but we want to do it well.
Sat 12th Nov-Food Hygiene course 9.30am Ozzy Road Baptist Church, Charnwood Street, Derby, DE1 2GU This is to get a Level 1 in food hygiene qualification. This is a full day course, and there is a charge of £10, but if you feel you can not pay this please still come on the course. The qualification is valid for 3 years and is yours not the nightshelters. If you did the course in year 1 of the nightshelter you will need to do it again this year. Coordinator training-10.30am Invitation only Tue 15th Nov-Housing workshop 7.30pm Ashbourne Rd Methodist/URC Church, 94 Ashbourne Road, Derby, DE22 3AG Come and find out what the housing situation is like in Derby, and where can people go from the nightshelter and the procedure for that in our city. We want to be working with the other agencies in the city to provide solutions for our guests Thu 17th Nov-Signing in training 7.30pm Hope Centre, 18 Curzon Street, Derby, DE1 1LL As part of the registering of guests and gathering information we use a laptop,it is important a few people understand how this system works, and with new areas being recorded on the laptop this is essential for any volunteers wanting to help on the door and sign in guests Thu 17th Nov- Handling Conflict 7.30pm Venue New Life Christian Centre, access via Holmes Street
Sat 19th Nov-First Aid training 9.30am Ozzy Road Baptist Church, Charnwood Street, Derby, DE1 2GU A full days course in first aid, useful for the nightshelter. A recognised qualification at the end. This is your own personal qualification not the nightshelters. Cost is £6. If cost is an issue please come and speak to us.

Getting to know you events at all other venues for evening and breakfast teams every night 7.30pm-9.30pm starting Thu 24th Nov and every night there after until 1st Dec! More information to follow
