Emerson Climate Technologies Presents New R290 Copeland Scroll™ Compressors for Comfort and Refrigeration Applications

 New R290 (propane) Copeland Scroll compressors  Suitable for upcoming F-gas regulation

AACHEN (GERMANY), March 18, 2014 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), will present at Mostra Convegno a new range of propane compressors for air conditioning, heat pumps, supermarket integrated display cases and indirect expansion refrigeration systems. These compressors are classified ATEX Group II.

For air conditioning and heat pump applications, six models of Copeland Scroll compressors for R290 will be available by the end of 2014, with cooling and heating capacities ranging from 4 kW to 13.5 kW and up to 27 kW for tandem applications. Because of the refrigerant’s excellent thermodynamic properties and its very low compressor discharge temperature, ZH*KCU models offer a high level of performances, efficiency and a wide operating envelope compared to R407C.

The similarity of R290 and R407C properties  and the fact that the refrigerant charge for R290 is approximately half the charge for R407C  makes system conversion simpler for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This supports their strategy to offer a natural and environmentally-friendly refrigerant.

For refrigeration, six models of Copeland Scroll compressors for R290 will be available by mid-2014, with medium temperature cooling capacities ranging from 2 kW to 9 kW. The ZB*KCU range covers applications such as self-contained display cases, units for cold rooms or even multi-compressor refrigeration chiller systems. The ZB*KCU’s offers a high level of efficiency, full hermetic design and light weight - characteristics that are essential in refrigeration applications.

In light of future F-Gas regulations, R290 is a good alternative to common refrigerants. It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of three and zero ozone depletion potential, reducing direct and indirect CO2-equivalent emissions, improving equipment energy efficiency, and extending system operating limits.

As it continues to invest in research and development for residential heating, air conditioning and refrigeration applications to help customers address new challenges, Emerson Climate Technologies will release additional compressor technologies for R290, including variable speed compressors with inverter-drive technology as well as fixed capacity compressors.
