March 20, 2014 Free tax filing resources at Public Library Don’t fret about the approaching tax deadline! The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County offers a wide range of resources to help you endure this tax season. Copies of tax returns are available at any of the Library’s 41 locations.

Free Tax Service: AARP

The Main Library offers free tax assistance from American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) volunteers on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 3B. The service is for taxpayers age 50 and older. For these taxpayers, volunteers will also assist in State of Ohio returns. Returns prepared by AARP volunteers are filed electronically.

AARP tax assistance is by appointment only through April 11. For details or to schedule an appointment, call (513) 369-6900. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Additional Tax Resources

The Main Library’s Information and Reference Department has current copies of many federal individual tax forms, either for free distribution or for photocopying. In addition to federal forms, the department distributes Ohio and Indiana state tax forms; and City of Cincinnati forms are available for customers to photocopy. Most tax forms are for individuals only; but selected forms are available for corporations, small businesses and non-profit organizations.

During tax season, selected copies of current tax forms are available for both reproduction and free distribution to all Library branches.

The Library also owns a variety of resources to guide tax planning and tax form preparation, such as the Earnst & Young Tax Guide, J.K. Lesser’s Your Income Tax and Lower your Taxes - Big Time! : Wealth-building, Tax Reduction Secrets from an IRS Insider. Customers may also use free Internet access to connect to federal, state and local tax documents online.
