About the Positions The Scripps College Academy seeks to hire 20-30 student-staff members to join the SCA student-staff team. The majority of SCA positions are filled at the start of the fall semester. The positions listed below are open for fall semester applicants.

Work study and non-work study students are invited to apply. Open to Scripps students only. Please check individual job listing for hourly compensation. Students may apply for and hold more than one position. All employment is contingent on successful background screening.

About Scripps College Academy (SCA) Since 2002, SCA has assisted hundreds of young women from local middle and high schools in achieving their academic goals. Programming includes an academically intensive, residential program each summer and numerous follow-up events throughout the school-year. Our goal is to see each student reach her goal of attaining a higher education. Application Process Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications will be reviewed as submitted. Because many SCA programs begin as early as the second week of classes, applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Assist the Director and Assistant Director in providing transportation and supervision during weekend outreach programs. Will drive Scripps College owned or rented vans to transport students from Los Angeles and Claremont locations.  Assist the Director and Assistant Director in supervising students during workshops and fieldtrips.  Through participation in these programs, will serve as a role model to middle school and high school students.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:  Experience working with diverse communities, first-generation students, and high-school age students preferred.  Commitment, enthusiasm, flexibility.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Time Commitment:  Will attend 1-2 trainings, during the week, at the start of the semester. Training will last 1-2 hours and will be paid time.  Will be expected to work approximately two Saturdays per month, usually 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon, depending on event times and traffic.

TUTOR Hours per week: 2 Number of positions available: 15 Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour

SCA provides weekly tutoring on campus to female students in grades 6-12. Tutoring sessions are held every Tuesday from 4-6 pm on the Scripps College campus. Tutors may also have the opportunity to work during special Saturday tutoring sessions, as available. Tutors are matched with students based on their academic specialties and the students’ academic needs.

Essential Duties:  Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas.  Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.  Provide evaluations of student progress as requested by SCA staff  Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned student(s).  Serve as a positive role model- inspiring and motivation students excel in academics, extra- curricular activities and to pursue higher education.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:  Patience and enthusiasm working with middle and high school students.  Prior tutoring experience desired, but not required.

Time commitment:  Must be available from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm every Tuesday.  Attend 2-3 training sessions throughout the semester. Trainings will last 1-2 hours and will be paid.
