FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS OF THE AAEOD OFFICE REGARDING THE SEARCH PROCESS

Question: Does the search committee need to receive training and meet with a representative from the AAEOD Office? Answer: Yes. The AAEOD Office is available to assist all search committees at any time (preferably toward the beginning of the search process) to provide assistance. The AAEOD Office will request that we attend a search committee meeting early in the search process. Question: Do I have to advertise nationally, regionally or can I just advertise locally?

Answer: It will depend on the level of the position. Tenure-track faculty positions and upper- level administrative positions are usually advertised nationally. Mid-level administrative/support staff positions are usually advertised regionally, but may be advertised nationally. Lower-level support staff positions maybe advertised locally.

Question: Do I have to advertise in diverse publications?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Can you suggest any diverse publications?

Answer: IMDiversity.com, Hispanic Outlook, Black Coaches Assn (BCA), the National Society of Black Engineers, etc. You are required to research and develop relationships with people of color (POC) organizations/associations, veterans and the disabled in areas specific to your needs.

Question: Can we conduct preliminary interviews at a conference before we request approval for interviews?

Answer: Yes, in consultation with the AAEOD Office.

Question: Can we call references before we submit the request to interview?

Answer: Yes, if references are required as part of the pre-employment process.

Question: Can we conduct preliminary telephone or Skype interviews before we request approval for interviews?

Answer: NO. The AAEOD office and HRA must review the applicants before all interviews are conducted to ensure that selected candidates meet the required qualifications.

Question: Can we call candidates to ask if they are still available and or interested in the position before we request interviews?

Answer: Only those applicants who were approved as interview pending and on hold.

Question: Can we put candidates on HOLD while we interview the top candidates?

Answer: Yes.
