U.S. Tennis Writers’ Association Honors the Best in Tennis Writing
Winners of 8th Annual Writing Contest to be honored at Sony Ericsson Open
KEY BISCAYNE, FL.—Top tennis writers will be honored at the Sony Ericsson Open on March 26 as winners in the Eighth Annual U.S. Tennis Writers’ Association Writing Contest. The ceremony takes place on Stadium Court at 6:45 p.m.
Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle was a stand-out, capturing five of the 11 awards, including a clean sweep of the "Game Story" category. Other media outlets whose writers claimed prizes are Tennis Week, TENNIS Magazine, Los Angeles Times, SI.com, and Tenniswire.org.
“The winning stories were chosen by a panel of three tennis-loving journalists, who evaluated 82 entries from 21 media outlets, dealing with everything from the pro tours and recreational tennis to industry news,” says USTWA President Liza Horan. “We're thrilled to present the winners with their prizes on Stadium Court again this year."
Entries came from daily newspapers, consumer and trade magazines, and websites in the categories of "Feature Story," "Game Story," "Hard News/Enterprise Story" and "Column/ Commentary." The contest is open to all writers, regardless of USTWA membership. Winners were chosen by judges Robin Blackburn-Ellis and John Martin, both of whom are associated with Columbia University's School of Journalism, and Esquire Editor-in-Chief David Granger.
