Purpose of Event/Project:

Blankets signify warmth, compassion and hope and that is why we come together. We have the power to share these blessings with others in our community. We are also doing this in the Woodland Glen complex in order to inspire those living nearby to donate blankets as well. Each team will arrive and will have a designated area with 8 pieces of pvc pipe in which they will construct a small hut/house. This is the base/structure of the fort (step 1). In addition, teams will purchase blankets from WUA. With the blankets, teams will make their outside layer and enclose the structure (step 2). Points are given for creativity and completion of fort in 1 hr 30 minutes. Additionally, we plan to hold a variety of events throughout the year in which we hold blanket- making events with other organizations, residence halls, and fraternities and sororities. These blanket-making events directly stem for our belief as an organization that philanthropy and helping others can be both fun and simple. While some organizations will be able to finance the purchasing of the blankets, other organization will not have it in their budget. Accordingly, we would love to be able to provide them the opportunity to participate in a blanket-making event with the help of SGA funding. All blankets will be donated to the Hope Center of Lexington, KY. Lastly, we hope to engage the community through making and donating care bags full of hygiene products, food, and kind notes.
