1 Module Content

Networking Architectures - Basic switch concept - VLANs - Switch protocols (VTP, STP) - Inter-VLAN Routing - Switchport Security Network Security Network Management and Access Control Lists NAT & PAT, DHCP Wide Area Networks (PPP with CHAP and PAP and Frame Relay) Wireless LANs - Basic wireless concepts and configuration. Wireless LANs - Demonstrate the concepts of wireless LAN design and installation. - Discriminate between and describe the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards and demonstrate understanding of how they would influence a design - Configure and install various wireless access points, bridges, adapters and antennae that meet mobility and throughout specifications including the site survey and documentation. - Configure, monitor and maintain a WLAN using both CLI and web-based - Device Manager tools. - Identify wireless security threats and vulnerabilities. - Configure wireless LAN security using MAC filtering, WEP, EAP and 802-1x technologies. - Demonstrate an understanding of proper site survey techniques and safety practices. - Configure various network monitoring technologies including Syslog, SNMP and logging. Troubleshoot wireless installation and configurations. Demonstrate an understanding of vertical and horizontal wireless implementations

Lecture/Tutorial /Laboratories Guidance Classes will consist of a mixture of lecture/tutorial/practical. The actual content of these sessions can be found on the module website.

Student Centred Learning Guidance Students will be advised on a weekly basis of any further study requirements.

Attendance Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes, be they lectures, tutorials or laboratory sessions. Please note that under the regulations of the University you may be withdrawn from your module if you miss more than 4 consecutive sessions as detailed in Section 1.3 of the Undergraduate Modular Framework.

Staff will ensure that attendance is monitored in the module.
