Sacred Worship Committee MeetingJanuary 10, 2013

Present: Allan Walter, Father Brice, Marie Walter, Karen Rossow, Beth Kaiser, Janet Boh, Peggy Jackson Absent: Mary Hoesly

Meeting called to order at 6:07 p.m.

Opened with a prayer

Christmas masses all went well. Beth felt there may have been too many Eucharistic Ministers serving wine. It was not determined if there was too much in the cups, or if due to the congestion, parishioners did not participate Father Joe plans on continuing in Greenwood until retirement or health issues Father Steve and Father Joe had a meeting with Father David Kunze. The new parish alignment will occur the weekend after Memorial Day. (June 1&2) The plan is to have four masses, two in Loyal, and one each in Greenwood and Willard. The plan is not to combine parishes, but to align the parishes. Each parish would have its council, separate books and retain its identity. A joint meeting of the parish council’s is scheduled January 22, 2013

Vestments: -Many compliments were made on the beautiful Christmas vestment and altar cloth -Judy is working on a Lent vestment. She will check back to confirm the design before beginning the embroidery

Kneelers: -The men will continue with the kneeler project on Saturday, January 12, 2013. -The last six pews will be spaced out and ends shortened to allow for wheelchair placement

Catechesis (To Celebrate the Mass booklet): Studied first several chapters and came up with several ideas to enhance the liturgy. -Acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries, events - possibly before mass, or place a table in the back of church where parishioners could enter "Reason for Celebration" which would be read before mass, or "Prayer of offering" which could be read as part of the petitions -Silence after the first reading - educate for the purpose of the silence, start with shorter time (15 seconds) and work up to one minute -Begin making changes with lent -Start the acknowledgements after Easter -Musicians and lectors would need to be educated prior to the new process for silence between readings.

Religious education: "Living Eucharist - Deeping Your Prayer" will be presented by Dan Crosby March 11, 12 and 13 from 7:30- 8:30 Sacred Worship Mission Statement: Our goal is to draw people fully into the liturgical life of the church, so they might be transformed into the likeness of Christ.

Sacred Worship Goals: 1. To have a RCIA program , a program of instruction to prepare adults for entering into the Catholic Faith. -be taught by Father and a parishioner. The parishioner could possibly be send for training. The intent is to have a group of people ready by Easter of 2014. More research will done. Michelle Lindner had worked with this in the past and has one person to be initiationed this Easter. 2.-Get youth involved in the liturgy and all areas of our parish community, as the next generation of leaders. 3.Enrich our understanding of the Eucharist. Use education to enhance the mass. 4.-Be a support system for Greenwood and Willard by offering support on creating committees.

Lenten Plans: -Integrate silence with the readings -Highlight the penitential rite -Youth and adult choir. Allan will talk with grades 6 thru 10 faith formation students to encourage participation in choir for Lent , HolyWeek and Easter. Beth will speak to the juniors and seniors. Practice will be one hour after CCD. Discussed the need for a strong choir director. A couple candidate names were suggested. Will sing Kyrie Elieson during Lent.

Committee Chairs: Allan - no issues Marie - She noted some of the readers were not following the guidelines. She will address the issue with the individuals. Beth - Lent scheduling for Eucharist Ministers Holy Thursday - schedule 5 - Washing of feet with 12 men and women Good Friday - schedule 2 Easter - 5 per mass - 8:30 no incense, 10:30 incense Peggy - A meeting is scheduled January 21 for all musicians Discussed inviting St. Anne's choir back for a two hour concert. No time or date was set.

February agenda items: -Walk through Holy week plans -Items that need to be implemented (goals) -Easter season -Goals and progress -Reading silence Next meeting is scheduled for February 21 at 6:00.
