Confidentiality and Policy

Before taking part in the Peer Mentoring Program, mentors, mentees, and study group members must consent to Confidentiality Agreement and adhere to Policy Guidelines. Failure to comply with our regulations will result in removal from the program. If after reading the regulations, you wish to join to become a member, follow the link for self-registration.

Confidentiality Agreement

As a member of the Trent Peer Mentoring Program:

 I will respect the privacy of each individual.  I will keep information regarding students strictly confidential.  I will not speak of students by name or manner that makes identification possible.  I will only share information regarding a student with the Peer Mentoring Assistants.

Policy Guidelines

As a member of the Trent Peer Mentoring, I agree to the following policy guidelines.

Before a Session:

 Make contact with students within 10 days of receiving a match.  Correspond with students in person or via email, telephone, or web chat.  Meet with students in public places like the library or common areas.  Arrive for appointments on time. o 15 minutes late equals a no-show. o No make up appointments.  Give students 24 hours notice of cancellation or changes to appointments.  Come to sessions prepared. o Attend class, take notes, review syllabus, and preview assignments.

During a Session:

 Establish roles and responsibilities within study groups.  Separate paid tutoring from volunteer mentoring. o Never demand or accept payment from students.  Avoid making negative comments about instructors, assignments, or texts.  Encourage students to communicate with professors and use campus services.  Refrain from doing students’ homework or suggesting grades.

After a Session:

 Keep a log of meeting times, accomplishments, and goals in myLearning System.  Check the myLearning System Peer Mentoring module weekly for updates.  Communicate with members via the myLearning System Peer Mentoring module.  Draw a clear line between friendship and mentoring.  Seek advice from the Peer Mentoring Assistants with respect to your role.
