PROBLEMS / CONSTRAINTS

1. Vehicle for EDO is very old and un-reliable. Some better vehicle may be provided.

2. Shortage of 2-Nos. D.D.Os

(i) D.D.O (Roads) Dunyapur

(ii) D.D.O (Roads) Lodhran 4 ROAD NETWORK IN LODHRAN DISTRICT.

1. Length of National Highway Falling in District Lodhran. = 85 KM.

2. Length of N-5 under District Government Lodhran = 6.75 KM.

3. Length of Provincial Highway Roads Falling in District Lodhran. = 104 KM.

4. Length of Farm to Market Roads Falling in District Lodhran (District Govt: Lodhran Roads) = 1198 KM.

5. Length of Sugar Cane Cess Roads Falling in District Lodhran. = 1 KM.

6. Length of Zila Council (Defunct) Roads Falling in District Lodhran (Now with District Govt: Lodhran.) = 314 KM.

 Preservation, rehabilitation and conservation through sustainable development. The Government of the Punjab established this office in May 2007.

 Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is also law enforcing agency i.e to administer/ implement Pakistan Environment ProtectionAct- 1997 and other related rules and regulations. 8 Pakistan Environmental Protection Act-1997 (PEPA-1997)

 This Agency performs its duties and takes action against the polluters under PEPA-1997 and submits the cases against violators through legal section to the Environmental Tribunal Lahore.

 The cases against minor offences are proceeded to Environmental Magistrate (Senior Civil Judge) at District level.

Duties of Field Staff:

 2-seats of Inspectors are sanctioned. Both the Inspectors and two Field Assistants are performing their duties in the whole District assigned by District Officer (E).

 D.O.E conducts all the visits, inspections for the verification of site inspection reports submitted by field staff.

 D.O.E also personally appears before Environmental Protection Tribunal at Lahore and Lahore High Court Multan Bench Multan regarding Violation of PEPA-1997. 9 FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT

 Collection of basic data of industrial units, hospitals and municipalities to assess the load of pollution.

 Collection of waste water samples of industrial units, sub soil water/canals to check their quality.

 Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of proposed industrial units/development activities/projects etc.

 Site inspections, reports and action regarding public complaints received against polluters or somoto action.

 Assessment of vehicular pollution and action against vehicular pollution through special campaigns launched by EPA, Punjab.

 Arrangement of Seminars, Walks and other public awareness activities by the direction of EPA, Punjab Lahore.

 Monitoring of the projects requiring an IEE/EIA and approval U/S 12 of PEPA-1997.

 Compliance status of NEQS (National Environmental Quality Standard).  To implement the Punjab prohibition on Manufacture, Sale, use and import of polythene bags (Black and any other polythene bag below 15 micron thickness) ordinance 2002.

 To implement any assignment designated by EPA, Punjab Lahore. 10
