Position Title: Program Coordinator Reports to: Camp Director Status: Seasonal, Full-Time, Exempt - May thru August 11, 2017 Location: Camp Bovey – Residential Summer Camp in Gordon, WI
Position Summary: To further the mission of camp through the planning and delivery of program activities and events that meet the needs of campers. Design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to male and female staff and campers’ age and abilities. Assist with Jr Staff/CIT program and supervision. Works closely with other members of the camp leadership team to meet the goals and intended outcomes of the camp program. Assist with program evaluations and Staff/Jr staff/CIT supervision at/on the bus.
Essential Functions: 1. Deliver a fun and educational program to campers. a. Assist with the implementation of Staff/Jr staff/CIT training for all program areas. b. Ensure lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers. c. Evaluate program delivery and abilities of staff. d. Deliver progressive program activities. e. Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities. f. Coordinate all-camp program and campfire activities. 2. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures. a. Assist with the implementation of staff training for all program areas b. Ensure campers and staff/Jr staff/CIT’s follow safety procedures in all program areas. c. Provide guidelines for programs utilizing camp equipment. d. Communicates daily activities through written schedules and announcements in the dining hall. e. Takes a lead role in staff supervision and delegation of duties to and from camp on the bus with campers. Assures check-in procedures are organized and clear. f. Assist with individual campers who may require special needs attention along with another staff person. 3. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas. a. Ensure daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. b. Ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris. c. Ensure repairs or issues are addressed in a timely fashion to the Director or Environmental Director. 4. Assist and monitor Program Counselors in developing and implementing camp program activities with the exclusion of Environmental Education. a. Regularly monitor work of program counselors. b. Provide feedback and guidance to program counselors. c. Provide recommendations and concerns to the Camp Director regarding staff/jr staff/ CIT performances. 5. Develop and implement schedules and records for all areas of camp program and facilities. a. Create camper and group program and activity schedules. b. Develop and implement staff/jr staff/CIT schedule for programs and activities. 6. Fulfill assignments and duties assigned as a member of a leadership team. 7. Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communications as outlined by camp policy. This encompasses activities including but not limited to; daily check-ins, weekly meetings, all staff meetings, mid and end of summer evaluations. 8. Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events and other all-camp activities and camp functions. a. Attend leadership meetings b. Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff c. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders d. Provide ongoing program ideas to counselors/jr staff/CIT’s
Qualifications: 1. Must have completed high school or equivalent. 2. Experience in the development and delivery of programs and activities. 3. Previous camp experience preferred 4. Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR and Basic Water Rescue (available at Camp) 5. Training and experience in teaching program to adults and children. 6. Desire and ability to work with children outdoors 6. Ability to relate to male/female youth and male/female adults in a positive manner. 7. Ability to address a large group of people, male/female, campers/staff, getting and keeping their attention while announcements and directions are being given. 8. Ability to live in the rustic, communal setting of summer camp with male/female campers and staff of all ages. 9. Ability to walk/hike in sandy terrain.
