Garden This week we will be visiting the QRS garden on Thursday morning. Please remember that garden lessons are held rain or shine. The children have loved our time in the garden so far. They’ve been getting their hands dirty planting seeds and getting an up close look at the wide variety on plants growing right in our own backyard. They’ve completed lessons on sorting seeds, creating patterns and leaf rubbings.

Ramsey Farm Next week we will be taking our first field trip to Ramsey Farm in Scarsdale. The Ramseys are a Quaker Ridge family and welcome our k classes each year. The children will get to see and touch many of the plants grown on the farm. Each child will take home a small pumpkin to keep. If you have not yet returned your permission slip and $1 for a pumpkin, please do so.

New student We are excited to announce the arrival of a new student to our class! Siona Theriault will be starting with us on Wednesday. The children are very excited for her arrival and have been wonderful helpers getting everything ready for her arrival.

OctoBEAR Our annual OctoBEAR event is around the corner. As part of Quaker Ridge’s Literacy Week, we will be inviting parents in on Tuesday October 20th . All are welcome to join. During this time, you will take your child, and possibly some friends, to a comfortable spot to read. Please come with enough books to read for approximately 30 minutes. If you are interested in joining us, please add your name to the Google Doc. https://docs.google.com/document/d/15I2gSncAlIbAI_6UwSM7W gKj4hXPvYvaaOWaEIsMBm0/edit?usp=sharing

*I will be out of the classroom on Tuesday, October 13th for professional development. We will be spending the day at a Columbia Teacher’s College writing seminar. I look forward to bringing back new ideas just in time to launch our next writing unit.

I hope you have an enjoyable long weekend. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
