POSITION DESCRIPTION: MATH CENTER COORDINATOR

1.00 GENERAL STATEMENTS

1.01 POSITION SCOPE

a. The Math Center Coordinator is responsible for managing the Math Center, which supports numeracy across the curriculum at Allen Community College’s campuses at Iola and Burlingame, through Online Learning, and through concurrent enrollment at area high schools.

b. The Coordinator participates in the formation of general college policies by participation on college councils, committees, task forces or consultant groups as appointed by the President.

2.00 SPECIFIC STATEMENTS

2.01 Position Function and Category

a. Reporting Relationship: Dean, as assigned by VPAA.

b. Function/Category of Position: Staff

c. Terms of Employment: 12 month contract on annual basis.

d. Salary Category: III.

2.02 Supervision

a. Supervision Received:

-The Math Center Coordinator reports to the appropriate Dean, as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. -The Math Center Coordinator coordinates with the Writing Center Coordinator, Library Director, and Online Learning Coordinators.

b. Supervision Exercised:

II-C-5.4 -The Math Center Coordinator supervises work-study student tutors at the Iola and Burlingame Campuses.

2.03 Key Areas of Responsibility:

a. Provides tutoring in mathematics on the Iola and Burlingame Campuses and institution-wide through online services. Position must provide consultations for a minimum of 150 students per semester.

b. Consults with faculty and other instructional personnel regarding math assignment support and tutoring appropriate to discipline- and course-specific mathematics needs. Position must offer to give presentations on all Math Center services to each program area a minimum of once per semester.

c. Provides tutor training and oversees peer tutoring conducted by work- study tutors. Position will provide tutor training workshop(s) each semester and during the summer session when needed.

d. Helps coordinate tutoring institution-wide and promotes Math Center in class presentations, instructional and college-wide convocations, and division and program meetings.

e. Oversees and administers the Math Center budget.

f. Keeps current in curriculum issues and mathematics center research that influences math center and tutoring practice. Position will have a formal professional development plan on file with the asigned Dean.

g. Develops and maintains resources regarding mathematics and numeracy, making resources available to students, faculty, and staff.

h. Maintains records regarding Math Center use and clientele.

i. Conduct regular assessments of Math Center usage and effectiveness.

j. Instructs one Mathematics course per semester, as scheduled by the appropriate Dean and assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

k. Advises students as assigned. Follows-up with advisees with early student progress (ESP) alerts and identification of intervention activities.

II-C-5.4 l. Participates in Mathematics division meetings and activities by sharing information on new practices, student success models, Math Center student feedback, etc.

m. Participates and contributes to the Mathematics division Program Review processes and other division Program Review processes pertaining to tutoring and numeracy education when needed.

n. Assists College organizations with math-related activities/projects.
