Immigration Court Best Practices MCLE

Who should attend? The course is appropriate for lawyers who are new to immigration law or experienced immigration lawyers who want to delve into court practice, or simply want to make the best impression upon the Court.

You’ll Learn This course is designed to raise the standard of practice before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (immigration court). At the request of the Court, Andrade Legal has created the agenda with the Court and Court Clerk input. Participants will learn what the Court expects from practitioners in terms of case preparation, presentation, and threshold issues such as jurisdiction, statutory eligibility issues, and filing practices of interest to the Court Clerk. Most emphasis will be given to subjects that the Court has specifically identified as important to the Court and Court Clerk. Highlights include:

● Relationship of removal proceedings to bond hearings and related venue and jurisdictional issues.

● Master calendar preparation, purpose, and related filings.

● Contents and format of submissions to the Court including Pre-Hearing Statements.

● Preparing yourself and clients for final Individual hearing, ensuring case is ready for decision, effective presentation of oral and documentary evidence, evidentiary rules, and expert witnesses.

● Motions to Reopen limitations, preparation, filing.

● Resources used by the Court, review of Court Practice Manual.

● Ethical issues presented in immigration court proceedings.
